McKeon Gets Snappy

If I were one of Congressman McKeon’s great great grandchildren and heard this, I’d go, “Oh snap!”

someone asked the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee to comment on how the White House is handling the ongoing unrest in Libya.

Republican Congressman Buck McKeon of Santa Clarita responded, “would you like me to second guess the President, is that what you’re asking?” he asked the reporter. “I don’t think we will engage in that at this time.”

“We’ll kind of let the President handle that. He’s doing a great job, I guess. Of doing nothing.”

Towel-snap!

But seriously folks, this is a nice, classic dodge. McKeon gets to slam the President for his response to Libya without offering any alternative. Now all the lemming reporters will ask the President why he’s doing nothing (even though doing nothing might be the best response).

Our boot salesman-cum-Congressman is all growed up and has become a savvy Washington insider. I’m so proud!

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t is pretty much where Obama is right now. From what I have heard, if the president orders a no-fly zone, we would be at war with Libya. Not that we (and other NATO countries) couldn’t take Gadhafi down (he apparently has a very week army), but my concern is we’d be putting ourselves into another hot area. However with that being said, the killing of his citizens should be addressed, and the only way to do that is with force. Continued and increased santions will only hurt those citizens wanting freedom. Skeptically, I worry that again, OIL is the big worry for most governments (including ours), rather than the lives of those fighting this ‘civil war’.

Why doesn’t Obama go before the UN just like the democrats made GWB do and ask the UN to add and enforce sanctions. Obama apparently thinks all he has to do is say those magic words “It’s time for you to go” seems to have worked for Eygpt and Tunisia.

FYI Santa Clarita can get a great view of the Int’nl Space Station and shuttle Discovery tonight from 7:28 until 7:30. Look to the NW for two quickly moving points of light rising into the sky. The two will seemingly disappear in the sky as they pass into the Earth’s shadow. The bright one is the Space Station..the dimmer is shuttle Discovery. Great way to entertain and educate children.

The last I looked, we have a DEFENSE budget, not offense. We can’t afford to be the worlds police. We also can’t afford a second army, this one the mercenary Xe among the other civillian and CIA assets. Let’s deal. We reinstate the draft, eliminate the mercenaries, and raise taxes to pay for the mess some would have us enter into. Now we can take action in Libya.

McKeon has shown a real lack of professionalism in his response where he absolves himself of actually answering the question while taking a lowbrow shot at the President. This is a reminder of why I have never voted for him. To concur with Brian, we are not the world’s police, nor does anyone have quick, easy answers to resolve the complex issues of the Middle East (throughout history, much less of late). Iraq and Afghanistan are prime examples of exerting our “influence” which has resulted in no resolution whatsoever to our “War on Terror” in nearly 10 years. Gadhafi has been a thorn in our side for over 40 years, but now Obama is supposed to come up with an instant solution? Give me a break, Buck!

Oh please, Obama shobama! I think this inaction is all part of not knowing whose role is it in the US military to take out Gaddaffi’s airforce and then enforce a no-fly zone. One would think this would be a job for the US Airforce but the Marines probably have been calling dibbs by singing the first stance of their hymn at every HASC meeting.
