Taking a few days off

The constant grind of work, school, life, and the blog take their toll and every now and then it’s good to take some time off and recharge. So the Daily Brief will be on hiatus until next week. Blog posts by me will be sporadic too.

    Have you all seen this? Is this not facism? How close are we to restricting the travel of our own citizens? Upon which criteria will citizens be approved or denied?     FYI, here is a response to a concerned email: Thank you for your e-mail. If you are e-mailing regarding the proposed DS-5513, Biographical Questionnaire for a U.S. Passport, we appreciate your interest. We are seriously considering the comments that we continue to receive and may ve…ry well incorporate several of the suggestions into a revised version. We would also like to take this opportunity to clarify a few common misconceptions regarding this form. The Biographical Questionnaire for a U.S. Passport, form DS-5513, is not designed to replace the standard DS-11, Application for a U.S. Passport, but rather to supplement the DS-11 only when the applicant submits citizenship or identity evidence that is insufficient to meet his/her burden of proving citizenship or identity. The Department estimates that such supplemental information will only be requested for a small number of applicants, perhaps less than .5% of the applications we receive annually. The Department understands that some of the information requested is quite detailed. However, in those instances where an applicant cannot provide sufficient proof of citizenship or identity, it is important for the applicant to provide additional information which will help establish the applicant’s United States citizenship or identity. The Department asks a wide range of questions related to an applicant’s birth on the DS-5513, Biographical Questionnaire for a U.S. Passport form in order to accommodate the wide range of birth circumstances of U.S. citizens. Many of these questions may not apply to the majority of applicants; however, for cases where the information may apply, it gives an opportunity to provide additional information that may then support passport issuance. For information on what documentation is required when submitting a DS-11, please refer to page two of the instructions. We hope the above information addresses any concerns you may have. Thank you!

    The part of that pc vs mac survey that cracks me up is the early adapter part. Um Mac people you do realize you have to wait for 3rd party software developers to develop the version your os can use at times right? Well I guess that’s why things like Parallels and boot camp exist so they can run PC software :-p

    Jayce, you sound as though you are speaking from 1999. Mac users don’t wait for anything, anymore.

    Mainly it’s for games, almost always written for the PC user, and often not ported to the Mac ever. For more serious work, security, and reliability, they stick with the Mac and its OS.

    As a die hard Mac user since 1984, a Christian and a conservative, I find the hunch data skewed, especially since I had never heard of hunch before seeing this post….

    As a die hard PC user, an agnostic and a liberal, I find the data odd too. I should be a Mac user and you should be a PC user according to the data. I guess we’re two of a kind going against the grain of our fellow die harders eh Alpiner?
