McKeon on Death of Bin Laden

Congressman Buck McKeon releases statement congratualting our military forces and recognizes that the war against terror continues.  Read McKeon’s full statement below:

“This is the news we have long waited to hear.  As Americans picked themselves up after the terrorist attacks of September Eleventh, President Bush told us that we would get Osama bin Laden.  The events of that day affected us all – in California, across America, and among our nation’s allies.  While it has taken longer than many expected, Osama bin Laden is dead.  Bin Laden’s death is proof to those terrorists who wish to harm us that they may be able to run and hide but we will get them eventually.

“Our brave military forces and their civilian counterparts who have been working for more than a decade to capture or kill bin Laden have the gratitude of our nation.  These warriors have paid tremendous sacrifices during this time, and tonight’s announcement should help ease some of those burdens.

“While we celebrate a major victory in one battle against evil, we should recognize that the larger war against terrorism continues.  Al Qaeda affiliates in Yemen, Africa and Asia remain dedicated to killing Americans and our allies.  We know that even as they mourn the loss of their inspirational leader, they will not waver in their determination to attack us and our way of life.  As we rejoice, we must remain vigilant, and continue to support our brave men and women in uniform, as well as our courageous intelligence officers, around the world who serve on the front lines against this determined enemy.”

    How amusing to see right wingers claiming that Bush’s efforts were behind this success; those same right wingers blame Obama for the recession caused by Bush’s policies. As usual, they want to have it both ways. Oh, the spin is so amusing to watch! Hurricane warning!

    Instantly upon the news of Osama’s demise being released a “Thank you, George Bush” Facebook page went up. Thank him for what? For NOT finding Bin-Laden? This is a direct result of renewed efforts in Afghanistan (which administration opponents were against) and a well-defined, thought out plan of action by many people. It wasn’t Obama who did it per se, but to not even acknowledge the president and to THANK the previous guy who didn’t catch him shows what lengths people will go to who are blinded by their absolute hatred of the fact that Obama is in the White House. This is a job well done. The boogieman of our nightmares is dead. Does it change anything concrete and immediately? No. But it does give us renewed hope that these past 10 years weren’t totally in vain, and that perpetrators who act against us with aggression now know that we won’t stop until we catch them and/or kill them.

    Almost certainly Scooter neglected to cut and paste the second page of McKeon’s press release wherein McKeon rightfully praised Obama for making the decision to take out Bin Laden. Because certainly Armed Service Chairman and decorated military veteran Buck McKeon would congratulate the Commander in Chief for the success of the operation, just as he would have criticized him, commenced an investigation and help multiple hearings had the mission been a failure. Perhaps the missing second page of McKeon’s press release read similar to these comments by Rush Limbaugh: “Ladies and gentlemen, we need to open the program today by congratulating President Obama. President Obama has done something extremely effective and when he does, this needs to be pointed out. President Obama has continued the Bush policies of keeping a military presence in the Middle East. He did not scrub the mission to get Bin Laden. In fact, it may be that President Obama single-handedly came up with the technique in order to pull this off.” “You see the military wanted to go in there and bomb. They always do. They wanted to go in there and drop missiles and launch bombs. A number of totally destructive techniques here. But President Obama, perhaps the only qualified member in the room to deal with this, insisted on the Special Forces. No one else thought of that. Not a single intelligence adviser, not a single national security adviser, not a single military adviser came up with the idea of using SEAL Team 6 or any Special Forces.” “Our military wanted to go in there and just scorch the earth, but President Obama single-handedly understood what was at stake here. He alone understood the need to get DNA to prove the death. Obama alone understood the aftermath, alone understood that there would be doubting Thomases if the place was just obliterated and no evidence was to be found. According to news reports, not one member of the military, not General Petraeus, nobody in the intel community, nobody had the slightest idea of going in there and using Special Forces.     Interestingly enough, Rush’s website touts that portion of his show praising Obama, but of course, if you want to listen to it in its entirety, you need to be one of Rush’s “24/7 members” (You think there’s a fee involved?). A friend told me that It was all said sarcastically. By the end of the show he was calling the president Osama, and joked that Obama was the one who told the Seals how to do a proper Muslim burial. His usual brand of deranged filth.

    My first thought when this all went down was “GOOD FOR OBAMA”. My second thought, “How long now before a spin can be placed on the events and any credit that’s due is taken away in one form or another”. I too saw the sign that said ‘THANK YOU PRESIDENT BUSH’. I have a friend who listens to Rush and he told me that Limbaugh actually thanked the president. I laughed, he didn’t; he really believed that Rush was sincere. When speaking about our current president, has Rush ever spoken about him without sarcasm? Now the ‘birthers’ are out in force, again, stating that the newest birth certificate is fake, along with all his college credentials. There will always be people of certain groups that are terribly uncomfortable with our president and no matter what he might do for the good of our country, they won’t be happy with him or his position. He will always be a Muslim, Socialist, Non-Citizen, etc., and I for one think the more they talk nonsense the better, ’cause the majority of us feel differently and are not being the fools/clowns they’re making themselves out to be.

    I heard the tail end of the segment. It was a focus on Obama as a “narcissist.” This wasn’t praise, it was condemnation for Obama for clarifying the point that he authorized the operation personally. Obama’s messaging was proper and welcome: the operation neither happenstance nor a rogue mission; it came from the highest levels of our government.

    I am going to assume the reference to Congressman McKeon being a “decorated military veteran” was tongue in cheek because I wasn’t aware that he ever served in the military. Maybe I was wrong…..

    See, if it had failed, you can bet Rush would have stated that it was on direct orders of the President, and that he alone should shoulder the blame. But when it succeeded, Obama is just an unimportant spectator watching Bush’s masterful plan get completed. Thought you knew.

    I am not a partisan voter. I feel that President Obama made the tough decisions and he and his team deserve credit for finally getting Osama Bin Laden. In my opinion, it is the best thing he has done as President and I firmly approve of his actions. His eloquent speech afterword was also patriotic and appropriate. Credit where credit is due folks without the party line stuff.
