Plus, I worry about people whose first order of business is to put “In God We Trust” (with or without the quotes) on everything. So I just couldn’t bring myself to vote for you. Petz supports CEMEX development with appropriate safeguards. We need to preserve private property rights and reduce the carbon footprint for future development. Let’s put the recycle center on Sierra Hwy where it belongs- let Whitaker Bermite sit fallow for future generations to enjoy, remove the bicyclye lanes in Rockwell Canyon, and let’s return all stimulus funds. No HSR through the Grapevine.

CEMEX isn’t about protecting private property rights–it’s a lease of public land that will be returned to the public pillaged and degraded. Otherwise, I agree with your points. What’s your campaign slogan?

CEMEX purchased the property with mining rights that ran with the land. Government has attempted to thwart them in the effort to develop the aggregate resouce. Vote For Petz….Santa Clarita could do worse….and probably will !!!

You want to reduce the carbon footprint but want to take bike lanes out on Rockwell Canyon. Those two statements are inconsistent. I have personally used the bike lanes on Rockwell and enjoy them immensely. I also drive on Rockwell daily and there is no additional back-up created because of that. Sure there is some congestion around COC during peak times but that existed before the road was restriped. Plus, its still two lanes each way near Valencia.

New York’s congressional district 26, a firmly entrenched red district, is having a special congressional election to replace the departed “Craigslist Romeo” Chris Lee. What was thought would be a runaway Republican success is now a dead heat election, with the RNC throwing everything they have at it. If this is any indication of things to come, then 2012 will look like 1996 all over again for the Republicans. I can’t wait to see what happens!

The Guru is as slimy as they come. Rep. Lee had corresponded with a Democratic plant who had posted in “Women Looking for Men”. He was targeted for voting no to repeal of DADT. So today the Tea Party candidate who is splitting the GOP vote is accused of attacking a reporter , and who shows up but the Guru, slobbering all over while wetting himself. It is much easier to tear down than to build up. Just ask Lady Gaga-the Guru’s friend.

Aaaah, Petz the “Moral Compass” compromises on his principles and blames a shamed congressman’s woes on the opposition. I’m sure if it were a female Democratic elected official you’d be “Shaming” her all over the place, but since it’s just a poor, misguided good old boy Republican congressman, it’s not his fault at all. Good move! That makes as much sense as reducing carbon footprints by removing bike lanes. Plus, you’re overlooking the point that the traditionally Republican-entrenched NY Congressional District 26 is being threatened with a Democratic representative, which is the main point of my thread. However you can’t grasp that reality, so you resort to dirty Tea Party straw tactics and name-calling.

The main point is that Rep Lee was the victim of a dirty tricks campaign orchestrated by Democrat operatives. Now there is a danger because a GOP safe seat includes a Tea party candidate who can split the vote. These are Chicago style tactics which are beyond the pale. The Dems don’t understand balance of interests-you cant take out a whole lane of traffic on Rockwell and dedicate it to one bike rider-who could just as easily ride a bike without hogging a lane. Bike riders are freeloaders who use the street but do not pay the excise tax on gasoline used to maintain them. And name calling is just part of the game when you are locked in mortal combat…fighting for your country.

If you want to believe this was a Democratic plot to unearth a guy who posted his own ad saying he was a 39 year old divorcee (when he is actually a 46 year old married man with a child), then go right ahead. He wasn’t targeted, he answered that ad (complete with shirtless photo) of his own free will, which demonstrates his judgment in making smart decisions. You should thank the “leggy glamazon” who exposed him for getting rid of such a low-brow charlatan!

I have a very clear memory of it, and it was indeed a massive defeat. However, the point remains that election alone does not equal success. Success is measured in results. Which is why talk about how, depending on what election year it is, one party/candidate “kicked a$$” simply by being elected is short-sighted. Since we’re talking about the most recent election, should the Republican party and its supporters been charged up, enlivened and emboldened by such a sweeping victory? Absolutely. But are you really going to continue in evading my point that getting the job does not equal success? Hypothetically speaking, if, at the end of four years, the Republicans elected last November have made little progress for America, will they still have succeeded simply because they were elected? I think not.

First, seeing the term “flophouse” makes me want to read those news reports with a 1930s radio announcer voice. Second, a “flophouse” is defined as a run-down hotel or rooming house. Methinks the term isn’t entirely well-placed in this case. Unless Ma Bailey’s rooming house in Newhall has become an eyesore, that is.

Exxon did not pay any federal taxes to the IRS last year. As a matter of fact (According to CNN), their federal income tax return equaled -$156 million. That being said, they paid $110 million in state and local taxes, and $78 billion globally. They recorded $7.7 billion in US tax costs, and their global income tax rate was 47%. Total revenues for 2010 was $383 billion with a net profit of $30.46 billion (up over 30% from 2009). As for how much oil companies actually make per gallon of gas, there are only “guesstimates” as the answer is a lot more complicated than a simple cost/retail analysis of a gallon of gas. The closest credible answer that I discovered can be found here: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/does_the_government_really_make_more_in.html But to quote a portion of that article: “One big problem in trying to calculate such a per-gallon amount is that income can be earned on the sale of any number of products besides gasoline, such as diesel, home heating fuel, jet fuel, natural gas, crude oil and whatever else a company might sell. The same goes for profits. The EIA does not attempt to calculate an average figure for the profit earned on each gallon of gasoline. “It’s not that these guys [the oil companies] are obfuscating; it’s that the processes are intertwined,” EIA economist Neal Davis told FactCheck.org. He added that trying to reduce profit figures to a per-gallon average for gasoline would be “heroic at best” and “sadly misinformed … at worst.” There are some estimates that state oil companies average nearly 10% profit margin on a gallon of gas, but that takes into account after-tax income, not pre-tax. Americans pay an average of 47 cents in federal taxes per gallon of regular gasoline, while Californians pay an average of 65 cents/gallon.

You might want to “read up” again, as I stated what Exxon paid in taxes. I also read the Forbes blog as part of my research. I guess you’re just sparring for an argument as I answered all of your questions directly and with factual data. If you want to prove you’re right about something and make some point, pick another topic, or flesh out the reasons you posed your original questions in the first place. For the record, I do not use MSNBC for any of my research, I go to the source (or at least sources that are cited) whenever possible.

And what impact would it have on where I am from? I support the President of the United States regardless of who sits in the position simply because I am a Professional Soldier. When a Soldier steps outside of these bounds it can infringe upon their Oath and trust given to defend the Constitution and the American People, think General McArthur and why he was removed from position. No military member on Active service should ever push an allegiance to a specific political party and should be unbiased and focused on the values, laws, and regulations of their respected branch/service. I instructed a class today addressing the concerns over transitioning our Army to a peacetime organization, something that happens after every major conflict. One aspect covered is that there is always a different view of those who come in for a few years and those who are career and see the value of the institution and live such.

I don’t care for the Far Right or Far Left’s policies and views most the time. I take a center of the road view.
