Heather Davis is an earnest person who is striking a blow to preserve democracy. The charter school Math teacher and Canyon parent appears to be the only person who has stepped forward to challenge the incumbents on the Hart District Board in November. Without her, there would be NO election.
I spoke to Heather at length today and can verify a few things that earn her my vote:
- She will not spend any of her own money (or even ANY money) on her campaign; and
- She does not appear to be a LaRouchite.
Beyond that, honestly, Heather has only very vague ideas about the specific issues facing the District, and was motivated to run due to the following:
- The meeting fee increase voted on recently (the standing incumbents actually voted against the fee increase);
- The “golden parachute’ provided to the former superintendent (a bit of a conflation);
- The kerfuffle around Gloria Mercado-Fortine’s alleged conflicts of interest; and
- The disarray surrounding Castaic High School.
So do democracy a favor and toss some votes her way. I predict that the gumption of bothering to run will get her between 2,000 and 2,500 votes against the 5,000 votes the incumbents hold in the sock.
