Election Update-With Five Days Left Field Appears to Harden

With five days left in the filing period, NO candidates pulled papers this week, so I have a feeling that no one else will consider entering the race that is not already in play.

This week Ed Colley and Jon Hatami did complete and receive approval of their nomination papers by the City Clerk.  Laurie Ender and Bob Kellar have not turned in their documents as of Friday.

As SCVTALKERS are aware, Steve Petzold decided not to perfect his candidacy (BOOOO!!!!!!).

That leaves TimBen Boydston, Garrison Lysik, and Brandy Brown with outstanding candidate documents.  I will predict now that Lysik and Brown will be no shows on the candidate filings, and I will give TimBen a 50-50 on whether or not he decides to perfect his candidacy.

The clock is ticking!

Tim, at least we can console ourselves with depth rather than breadth of candidate coverage. The KHTS piece on Colley today is perfect in its quiet, knowing wryness. Masterful understatement abounds. http://bit.ly/Apa1SN

Colley will fit in fine with the council. Note his reference to Kellar as an “obstructionist”. This council cannot comprehend that there may be a legitimate contrary viewpoint. When confronted with anything other than concensus they take out the “label maker” and we get “developmental terrorists” and now “obstructionists”. I’m beginning to see the “integrity” already.

If the valley is drought proof as Colley states then why are we asked to conserve? After conserving we are charged with a with a “REVENUE ADJ.” If I lived in the City I would not want this guy looking out for me. Just my opinion.

Rep. Elton Gallegly has announced his retirement. http://www.vcstar.com/news/2012/jan/07/gallegly-retire/ Sen. Tony Strickland is now free to run for the open Congressional seat centered on Ventura County. Cameron Smyth is now free to challenge liberal Sen. Fran Pavley for that swingy state senate district. Analysis to come.

I love this game of musical chairs. Earlier this week, I read that Pavley would be going for the 19th SD, if Bob Hertzberg wants to run for the 27th (the one that grabs a slice of SCV, including Smyth’s house). Tony might be a dunce and a political lightweight, but he has higher name ID than the announced Democrats seeking the 26th Congressional seat. I would love to see Pavley make a run at that seat, whether or not Tony goes for it.

Tony is one of the hardest working campaigners in the state. He’ll win the seat because, yes he does have better name ID, but also because he’ll put in more hard work on the little thing that go with campaigning.

He barely beat HBJ in an election where he should have trounced her, he’s dim-witted, and he’s much too far to the right to win in a large coastal district that leans D. If he’s against anyone with marginally decent name ID and political chops, he’s done.

I spoke with Brandy Brown on Thursday. She has decided not to pursue a bid for City Council at this time. Mr. Lysik continues to not answer Facebook messages or return phone calls.

Alan: Is TimBen going to turn in his papers?
  12. Alan FerdmanJanuary 7, 2012 at 6:27 pm
Tim I don’t know any reason why he wouldn’t. However, I was out of town for New Year and just got back last Wednesday. So, to know for sure, I’ll call and ask.

Wow Petz shocked the Lions showed up… They haven’t won a playoff game since Einsehower was president. I do hope you guys catch the Saints sleeping like Seattle last year.
  14. PetzJanuary 7, 2012 at 7:01 pm
Haven’t won a championship since Petz was born.
  15. NateJanuary 7, 2012 at 7:22 pm
I am talking winning a playoff game… Championship is another conversation.
  16. PetzJanuary 8, 2012 at 7:54 am
They beat Dallas in a playoff game in the 90s.

Oh Right… forgot about that so 1 playoff win since 1957. Better luck next year.
