- Congressman Buck McKeon was fined $4,600 in April by the FEC for failing to disclose his campaign's 2011 year end disclosure report. The fine was discovered by his challenger Lee Rogers who found an "unusual expenditure" in McKeon's 48 page campaign finance report. The McKeon campaign says they actually submitted the report on time but an "error in the electronic transmission of the file" resulted in it being late. - Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on an 87 unit, $21 million veterans housing project in Golden Valley. The homes will be available for purchase to veterans after they complete their service. SIGNAL, SCVNEWS
- Two brothers from Valencia, ages 38 and 43, were arrested Monday for allegedly burglarizing several local businesses. Deputies rolled up on the men while they sat in a car outside a Golden Valley busineses at 2am. SIGNAL

- State "declares war" on SCV fruit flies, claiming that the pests, which originate in Hawaii and Micronesia, could cause $176 million in damage to fruit crops if they spread. The state is hanging pesticide-laden bait around the SCV where the flies were discovered and says the effect on humans is "negligible." LA TIMES
- The Election Integrity Project, one of those right-wing voter suppression efforts, is offering a training class to SCV residents this Saturday in Newhall at Vincenzo's. The project will train interested suppressors to "observe the voting process before, during and after the election" and "enforce" the electoral process. Oh I hope run into one of them on November 6. - What a difference: neat photographs have been donated to SCVTV by "Victor Valencia," a photographer of the SCV in the 70s, 80s and 90s. This one is a stunner, showing what is now Hamburger Hill, Sunset Pointe and Stevenson Ranch before they were those things. Back in 1986, a huge Valencia sign was painted on the ground there. In the distance you can see empty fields where the mall and Summit neighborhood are now SCV HISTORY
