- A 22 year old woman who "loved to party" and battled heroin addiction for three years was found dead yesterday in a Santa Clarita hotel room. Carlie Coulter was a graduate of Hart High. She is the sixth young person to die of heroin this year, though Cary Quashen at the Action abuse place says "more than a dozen" have been lost. SIGNAL KHTS talked to her mother as well, and described how her daughter had tried to get sober but "creepy people" would text her and the environment in the SCV was terrible for a recovering addict KHTS
- Part 1 violent crimes continue their increase in 2012 but the increase is more notable because crime rates were so low in 2010, according to Captain Paul Becker. Becker breaks down some of the numbers at the SIGNAL, and SCVNEWS has a report too

- The new "Mimi's" restaurant will open tomorrow. The restaurant is the first in the Mimi's Cafe chain to be "re-imagined" as a European dining experience. The Signal says Mimi's is being modified because it's the closest to the chain's CEO. One neat thing: unlike the Hyatt, the new Mimi's will have free public WiFi. SIGNAL

- Holy cow: Stevenson Ranch Elementary wins National Blue Ribbon award distinction and scores 981 out of 1000 on its API, the highest score in the SCV. Principle Candace Fleece and a teacher at the school will fly to DC to receive an award from the DoE, but they're also planning a celebration with students after they get back. Congrats! SCVNEWS
