There's some good discussion over at Ray's Facebook page about TimBen Boydston and the discrepancy between the cash-in-lieu benefits he receives vs the rest of the Council.
One reader isn't sympathetic, comparing TimBen to the grocery workers a few years back. Organizations have to have ways of cost-cutting, and employee compensation is almost always the number one cost center, right?
The issue seems to hinge on TBB's "hire date", which was the day he was sworn into his term as Councilmember. Fair enough, pay TBB the new cash-in-lieu amount.
So what about Bob Kellar? He was re-hired by the voters in April 2012. I'd say it's only right to pay him the same cash-in-lieu TBB is getting.
I appreciated TBB's suggestion that all Councilmembers forgo cash-in-lieu benefits and wasn't surprised it was shot down immediately. But at least he tried and succeeded in pointing out the absurdity of this.

I often view our City Council's efforts with a skeptical eye, but I applaud their decision 4-0 to maintain the second tier benefit package for city employees, based on hire date.TBB always comes across a bit dramatic, but fair is fair.
Didn't Tim Ben come across as a crybaby? Especially his line about the other council members lowering their compensation to match his? Really TBB? You have to wonder if he is so wholly self absorbed and obtuse as to current events and budget constraints, especially concerning benefits in both the public and private sectors. This was a wake up call for Tim Ben that not only grocery workers are subject to this "second tier".
