- And in other sleazy news, the folks behind the Einstein K-6 school may actually be even bolder than we thought. Perry "Ace" Smith at KHTS reports today that the Hart District is investigating whether Einstein boosters are actually trying to build a junior high and another high school at the same Rye Canyon address they're proposing to build a K-6 school at. Jeff Shapiro, the Einstein director, denies that his group will open a second SCV charter high school, saying the Rye canyon address is only a mailing address for a new charter high school, which will most likely be in the SFV. Somehow, Shapiro has managed to tick every education official in the 913xx off though; all SCV school districts took out an ad in Acton/Agua Dulce's tiny Country Journal newspaper, showcasing themselves rightfully as high-performing public schools. Notable that the Supes are jumping in too: Marc Winger of NSD calls Einstein's moves "slimy" and disrespectful "of the concept of local governance," while Challinor of the Hart District -which originally granted Einstein a charter years ago- stopped short of calling Shapiro & Einstein liars, but said there is a "lack of clarity and transparency" surrounding their moves. - Golden shovels, photographs, smiling city officials on tap for 10am this morning as the official groundbreaking for the Newhall/Main Street roundabout commences. Skip the PR-like story and read the commenters, one who says the Mayor has it all wrong; the real gateway entrance to Newhall is at the 14 & Newhall avenue, where one is "exposed to a shantytown, gang ridden, section 8 apartments, mobile home parks, used car dealerships and liquor stores." Hey, to be fair, there's also this weird church group that rents out space to non-profits for free and makes some really tasty organic shakes I hear. Also, AV Party Supply & the oil change place have never let me down and name one other street in the SCV that has such diverse food and an aquarium store. I bet you can't! - And another great piece from Holt, who catches us up on the young Castaic woman named Emalee Banry who was nearly killed when a drunk driver slammed into her car at Newhall Ranch Road & Copper Hill Drive on May 25. Banry, Valencia High Alum, is engaged to a Lance Corporal in the Marines, and though she suffered severe injuries in the collision, she's still planning on having her wedding in September when she hopes she'll be able to walk with the aid of only a cane. As for the driver? He plead no contest and is spending 2 years in state prison. SIGNAL
- Remember the female Sheriff's Captain Carrie Stuart, who was driving in a County car back in December south on San Francisquito Canyon road and drifted into the opposite lane, colliding head on with a truck? Well she's alive and in recovery and the LASD will give a special award to the civilian who helped save her life that night. - Neat: Sculpture at Vasquez rocks involving "rammed earth" materials designed to be revealed over time wins recognition from a National Public Arts group.
