Coroner officials "possibly" conducted an autopsy Saturday on the charred corpse found burning in Castaic last week. Then again, maybe they didn't. SIGNAL
Meanwhile, the search continues for Bryce Laspisa, and his poor mother is desperate, saying on the facebook page that the waiting is "unbearable." She even posted information from a psychic who says that Bryce is located somewhere near the "v shaped" Castaic Lake. PATCH Maybe the crank psychic can tell us whether the coroner performed an autopsy? I hope the Coroner's office had a restful weekend.
City Council agenda: Lots of routine stuff on tap for this week's Council meeting, save for first hearing about single use plastic bags in the City of Santa Clarita as well as an update on the Newhall Roundabout public art project and the Rivendale Park open space and conceptual plan. Yes, you heard that right; City staff is asking the Council for direction on whether to ban or continue to allow the use of single-use plastic bags within the City boundaries. Many other cities have outlawed these bags, as has the County of LA. Also be sure and check out the Rivendale Conceptual Plan AGENDA
Truth hurts: Perry Smith at KHTS interviewed Jim Soliz and Rosemarie Sanchez-Frazier, the two plaintiffs suing the City, Sulphur Springs and COC over their at-large voting systems. Soliz, who has lived in the SCV for decades, said he first was concerned about a lack of representation of the SCV's large Latino population when Tresierras tried to expand, but failed because the City favored a large chain. I think he's referring to Tresierra's desire to move into the vacant Albertson's space on Lyon's....instead Vallarta went in there. He also was "awakened" to the lack of representation here when Bob Kellar issued his "proud racist" comments in 2010. KHTS
OMG: A span of the 5 Freeway over Magic Mountain parkway came loose sometime this morning, and welds on the steel bridge poked up from the surface of the roadway, damaging cars and flattening tires. So the CHP shut down the 5 South in that direction, backing up traffic all the way to the 126. NBC 4 has pictures of the welds protruding from the ground. NBC 4
Neat: I like what the ArtTree community art project is doing on the broad walled surface of a building in Old Town Newhall. Never know what to expect and they've come out with something new this week. SIGNAL
There are some 3,000+ homeless people in the SCV and SFV according to a survey, a near 65% increase over 2011. That makes the growth in homeless here (the SFV is included remember) the second highest in the County, behind only the AV. SIGNAL

LTE writer sad that Saugus' Greenhouse Cafe has closed. LTE But all the more reason to come to Newhall. As I posted about on Instagram over the weekend, a new organic sandwich/drink shop named Eat Real is coming to the old Newhall Coffee House location on Lyons.

Jeff, you say “I think he's referring to Tresierra's desire to move into the vacant Albertson's space on Lyon's....instead Vallarta went in there.” Tresierra’s was working on moving into a brand new building on what was then known as San Fernando Road, near Green Thumb Nursery which now houses a Dollar Store I believe, not the former Albertson’s location on Lyons. I was very involved with the SCV Chamber at the time and personally recruited Arturo Tresierra’s into the Chamber and had lengthily discussions with him on locations for expansion or a second location, Lyons was never in the mix. Tresierras also had all permits etc and was NOT held up by the city as Mr. Solis claims, many of his “facts” through out his interview are incorrect including those pertaining to Tresierras markets. Arturo Tresierras and his family made a BUSINESS decision not to lease the larger building and remain in their previous and current location which had nothing to do with the “city”.

Berta, you are 100% correct. Arturo decided in his best interest to stay in the current location. Now if the city was involved, maybe they convinced him that crowds from all over would be coming to downtown Newhall, especially when traffic moves a lot better when the roundabout is done.

I never was a fan of Greenhouse Cafe. Tried it twice and both times left feeling "meh." But hey, we gotta support "local" right???

I’m all for supporting local businesses if they’re good. My personal opinion of Greenhouse Café is likely best summed up by the fact I dined there once in 2000 and once in 2012.

re:Greenhouse I liked it, thought the food was good. Heard they moved out because the property management wanted to updated the kitchen etc for an enormous amount of money and raise the rent to cover it. Greenhouse said no, and moved out. Who will be next in that complex

Regarding Tresierra's, as it's already been mentioned here, I don't recall them ever intending to move into the old Albertsons spot. The plan was to move into the space at Stagecoach Plaza (now housing a Dollar Tree and Real Life Church East), and that never panned out. But man, now you're reminding me of the community awareness campaign in Old Orchard when Vallarta announced its plans. Remember how the purveyor of pigs feet and tequila was going to turn Old Valencia into a wasteland of tattooed gangstas?

I think we need Patricia McKeon to speak at the City Council meeting regarding this issue. Any bets on whether she'll show? This issue was so important to her.

I am sure when the handlers came up with that idea for a political epiphany story they were all congratulating themselves on how clever they were. "I'm just a normal suburban housewife upset about paying 10 cents for paper bags." I am sure they did not predict how quickly that would turn into open mockery. Recall that victorious candidate Scott Wilk actually gave out re-usable bags with the "Got Wilk" slogan.
