- An LASD Deputy who lives in West Ridge but does not work out of the LASD's SCV Sheriff Station, is on paid suspension after firing his gun at or in the air to "warn" some kids who were ding dong ditching his home. The Deputy, Sung J. Pak according to the Signal & KHTS, was ding dong ditched twice, and the second time, he actually chased the group of 15-20 youths (from younger kids to teenagers) out of his home until he a few of the older kids turned to "confront" him. At that time Pak discharged his service firearm into the air "as a warning shot" according to LASD's spokesperson. Signal comments predictably alive and hot with most saying they hope the Deputy is fired for using way more force than necessary. SIGNAL, KHTS

- “The way the route is supposed right now, we would get all of the impact and none of the benefit,” Councilwoman Marsha McLean said to California's High Speed Rail Board of Directors about the proposed alignment for the HSR train through the SCV. I wouldn't say we'll get none of the benefit. If HSR was a huge, amazing success (many doubt that), it would no doubt remove vehicle traffic off I-5. Which would harm sales tax generation for the City and County, but probably make for better air quality in the SCV. Anyway there's every indication that the HSR authority doesn't care about impacts on the SCV; we're just a strategically placed valley as evidenced by all the other infrastructure that runs through but doesn't terminate here. "This hemisphere was civilized by the Europeans who landed on it's shores, and the day should be celebrated like any other national holiday. - Neat story about a local company called AMS Fulfillment that has partnered with the SCV Sheriff's Station to hire youths who are at risk, either for a life of crime or something else. AMS Hires them, builds them up, and trains them to be productive members of society, and the program requires them to finish high school and encourages them to keep studying and working hard. KHTS
- State Senator Steve Knight stopped by Valencia & Saugus High as well as Rio Norte Jr. High to talk to students, teachers and such. - October: 'tis the season for protests? Last weekend, on my way out of the vile, blighted, gang-infested hellscape of Newhall that i used to call home I witnessed a bunch of Catholics standing at Lyons & Orchard with banners and signs exhorting the SCV's largely Mormon community to pray the Rosary for America. How many non-Catholics even know what a Rosary is anyway? No you don't wear one as jewelry. Anyway, I don't know what they were on about, but today there will be another protest at McBean & Valencia against the government shutdown & debt crisis.
