  • Double Your Checkpoint, Double Your...Fun?: Friday night brought two, count 'em, two DUI/license checkpoints, which resulted in a dozen arrests (zero DUI arrests). I do take some issue with this note in Dale Fairclough's report: "According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies." Unless things have radically changed in the nearly four years since I left The Signal (it's possible), there are a lot of DUI arrests in this town, but the majority aren't necessarily happening at checkpoints.   • No Answers Yet: Officials are still investigating the crash of a small, single-engine plane near the Agua Dulce Airpark on Friday afternoon, which sent a man and woman to the hospital with injuries. The Signal

  • A Bright Idea: Installing home solar panels could become a lot less encumbered by red tape if a new fast-tracking law passes. Daily News
  • Running for a Reason: A Burbank man is running 86 miles on July 4 to support SCV-based nonprofit the Michael Hoefflin Foundation. The Signal
