Looking at the Numbers: Much has been made of how cash-strapped the Acton Agua Dulce Unified School District is, and how its charter school plan is a revenue-raising tool. It apparently got Acton resident Ken Pfalzgraf wondering how much the AADUSD superintendent is paid, and he found that it's about $181,000 a year for the district of about 1,000 students. It's worth noting that's about 10 percent more than the superintendent salary of the much-larger Newhall School District. SCVNews
Hobby Lobby Opening Pushed Back: Slated for the space once home to OSH, Hobby Lobby has announced its Saugus opening has been pushed back to 2017, with no clear reason given. KHTS

I agree the accent came off weird and condescending, but I don't think TimBen was intentionally trying to be a jerk. Pundits and linguists have often pointed out how politicians drift into and out of accents (think Hillary Clinton in 2007, http://www.cjr.org/essay/politics_with_dra ) and they explain it as caused by some mix of empathy, pandering, or masking. But I definitely wouldn't call it "parody."

Really I'm not buying it. None of the others drifted in and out of sounding like they were born in east LA (not even Señor Acosta) and none of them mentioned things like having a relative who was a poor bean picker.

Everything's racist and I'm so offended! Seriously, did you ever try to talk to someone who's language you don't speak, but you need to get info from them quickly? You will do what he did subconsciously. Something kicks in and it makes you do that unintentionally. I've had it happen and seen it happen to others. Hey, maybe an expert like that attorney on here who finds racism in every difference of opinion with him can chime in and help those who think this is a big deal make it a big deal.
