City gives dogs a Christmas present of their own

WHEREAS,The city of Santa Clarita is a community of humans and canines alike but different; there was no place where God-fearing, law-abiding SClaritans could let their children dogs run free; all canines are created equal and born without the constraints of their man-made leashes; the cries and barks of thousands shook City Hall like the Walls of Jericho, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Santa Clarita Shall dedicate a Dog Park on December 14 where humans and canines can feel free to mingle, socialize, and play together in a safe, fenced-in environment at CENTRAL BARK, located in the back of CENTRAL PARK. Can I get an Amen?

On Friday, December 14, 2007, the City of Santa Clarita will unleash its first off-leash dog park, called Central Bark. The 1.3 acre doggie park is located near the back of Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, adjacent to the multi-use fields. The new off-leash dog park has a designated area for small dogs and a separate area for larger dogs. The off-leash dog park came about in response to hundreds of requests received over the years by the City from area dog-lovers. This new off-leash dog park is to be an interim dog park site until the City's permanent dog park is constructed at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex. The City plans to have the permanent park opened in late 2009. “We invite the community to come and enjoy the new, off-leash dog park area, Central Bark, and remind everyone to follow the posted dog rules, and to keep all dogs on a leash until you arrive at the off-leash dog area,” explained Rick Gould, “top dog” for the City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.
