Right about noon, the heavy dark skies finally started dumping on us here in Newhall. Unlike the mild, gentle rainstorms we’re used to, this Pacific storm is packing some pretty strong winds that result in wind-driven rain smacking against the side of my home.
Santa Clarita Weather.com says the temperature in Saugus is a hair below 50 degrees, and the automated sensor there says at least two-tenths of an inch of rain have fallen. Winds are coming out of the southwest at about 7 mph with a gust of 29 mph recorded at about 12:11 pm.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the storm should hit hardest this evening and rain should continue throughout the weekend and begin tapering off on Monday.
I’m about to head out into the tempest, as it were, and the official SCVTalk Subaru ought to get some fine all wheel drive traction in this storm. It’s rare to see swollen rivers and creeks in the SCV, so if I see anything spectacular, I’ll be sure to photograph it.
