Buck McKeon… YouTuber?

In a welcome message to viewers, Santa Clarita’s Congressman kicks off the first in a series of videos designed to highlight his work on the House Education and Labor committee.

McKeon used to chair the House committee tasked with defining and managing legislation on student loans, workplace laws, and other education matters, but he lost his leadership position when the Democrats took Congress back in November 2006.

Now he’s the senior Republican member on the committee and the Republican’s point man for No Child Left Behind and other big education issues.

In an effort to inform voters nationwide on the committee’s work, McKeon and his GOP colleagues have created a YouTube account to post videos with “regularly updated information on Republican positions, policies and initiatives.”

He also says the videos are meant to serve as a counterpoint “when we don’t see eye-to-eye with committee Democrats.”

McKeon appears in the video with what appears to be a snazzy Christmas tie with the US Capital building as a background.

In the three weeks since the video was posted, it’s been viewed 9 times.

McKeon has been the subject of YouTube videos before, but this is probably the first time he’s created one.

During the 2006 campaign, supporters of McKeon’s challenger, Rober Rodriguez, dressed up as a chicken and confronted McKeon in Lancaster. The video was linked and embedded on dozens of left-leaning blogs and websites.

Though there’s been no official confirmation, the 69 year old McKeon will reportedly seek reelection to California’s 25th District this fall.
