Technically there is no such thing as a “speed trap” with the examples at that site. The photo cameras are clearly marked at the intersection, and even if police are “hiding,” they are not there to “trap” you if you are going the speed limit. I appreciate the information so as to be aware, but to call them “traps?” A trap is a trap when say for instance the posted speed limit is 55 and then a moment later over a little hill it is 35 without prior warning of a speed zone a head, and the highway patrol are sitting there waiting to catch you. Such has happened on numerous occasions. I can think of one notorious example in Arkansas from the 90s. And before any of my progressive foils attempt to rebuke my defense of the “man,” they had better not have been the ones grousing in the comments from yesterday about speeders on Decoro or whatever.

Where is the story about Arnold quashing the states bid for 1.1 billion in commuter funds? Instead he told the state to focus solely on money for the bullet train?

Jeff, I don’t think you’ll be able to bring dogs of the 4-legged type into the Lazy Dog Cafe for health reasons. They can ride along for curb-side pickup though!

How can Dave Bossert say “there is not an overwhelming desire for a new city or annex into the city of Santa Clarita” when Hasley Hills voted 66% AGAINST remaining unincorporated and 73% FOR annexation, when Sunset Pointe voted 55% AGAINST remaining unincorporated and 63% FOR annexation, when Southern Oaks voted 51% AGAINST remaining unincorporated and 61% in FOR annexation, when Westridge voted 66% FOR annexation, and when two Stevenson Ranch precincts voted FOR annexation by more than 60% and the other two voted FOR annexation by greater than 50%? How can Flo Lawrence say “it’s not that forming our own city on the westside is a bad idea, it’s just not a good idea right now” when voters in every neighborhood slammed, locked and nailed the door shut on their proposal for a new westside city? Why are they in full spin cycle? Is it because they don’t like the answers they got from their “constituents?” And will they now attempt to discredit a process that was their idea in the first place?

I disagree that dogs and food establishments don’t mix. I travel to Ventura to enjoy a day at the beach with my canine friends and always stop at Andrea’s on the boardwalk for Calamari. My “girls” wait patiently on the patio under my table while I order and return to pick up my food. People at other tables often offer uneaten chicken breast and the like and are very dog friendly. Ventura in general is very pet friendly and I wish more places in the SCV allowed friendly, socialized, leashed canine friends to accompany us “doggy people” at meals outdoors at local eating establishments. We were promised something like that at the Plaza at Golden Valley so I’m hopeful once more places open up there will be at least one venue.

Traffic enforcement – thank goodness the Sheriff is doing something. Have any of you ever tried to cross on foot one of our more heavily traveled intersections? I don’t even try where there is no signal and even with a signal I have to look out for all of the people wanting to turn right without even looking to see they’re about to run over a person. As for speed, nearly everyone in this valley drives way too fast, I think the average speed on Sierra Highway is about 70. I’m judging by the fact that I drive the limit of 50 and cars come flying up on me and pass me like I’m standing still.

BTW – My sincere appreciation to the sheriff’s deputy who was out on Tuesday night citing the commercial vehicles on Camp Plenty! The Ceva truck used to stick out and force you to drive on the wrong side of the road to get by it. I know, after the Plambeck letter I’d be judged a NIMBY too, but really, why do these people have to park in a residential neighborhood? There are NO businesses here, just houses.

Jane, if you are not attending Canyon Country Advisory Committee meetings, you should. Next Wed, 11/18/09, at 7pm at Activities Center, discussion as to whether Code Enforcement will continue on a proactive basis in Canyon Country. Community Preservation works hand in hand with Sherriff to address these issues. I believe efforts should continue and it sounds as though you do too. Come voice your opinion!

The Democrats’ Phony Health insurance Replacement Program won’t help that poor woman either. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Democrat plan will in fact raise the premiums for most Americans while making it easier for a small minority of Americans that could not afford insurance to be able to do so. Separately and in addition to that, those that have “gold plated” insurance plans (plans with really small deductibles or no deductibles at all) will no longer have their portion of the monthly cost taken out pre-tax.
