$25 million in stimulus funds for SCV

Pivoting off today’s Signal report about real jobs saved thanks to the federal stimulus package, I decided to check out Recovery.gov to see if they had updated figures for the SCV at large.

According to data on the site -posted on 10/30/2009- Valencia (91355) has received almost $25 million in stimulus funds since the Act passed in February of this year.

Click around the SCV and you’ll see exactly where the money went. A lot of it ($17 million according to the Signal) went to local K-12 & community colleges, but you’ll find several private companies & organizations there as well (for instance, the site says the SCV Senior Center has received $165,681).

Buck McKeon has rightly criticized the Administration for rising unemployment and poor job creation initiatives, but this data, along with the Signal report, prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the stimulus package has saved hundreds of jobs right here in Santa Clarita. And that, in many ways, is just as important as creating new jobs, because employed people stay in their homes and continue to spend here in town.

Without the stimulus funds that McKeon voted against, Santa Clarita would be in an even worse position than it is now.

    RE: McKeon voted against stimulus funds that have helped SCV. McKeon continues to vote on the wrong side of progress for the SCV. His vote against the stimulus and against health care reform prove that he is not voting in the best interest of his constituents. I have respect for Representatives like Joseph Cao (R./LA) who don’t just tow the party line, but vote in the interest of their constituents. That takes backbone. Wish McKeon had the courage and character to put us first instead of the GOP.

    Great to learn that the bowling ally needed a couple hundred K from the taxpayers, not to mention a law firm and a couple of other freeloaders. When do the taxpayers get their fair share. I know, our fair share is having to pay for the freeloaders when our taxes go up to cover the gap.

    The 21 point plan, Enterprise zones, etc. is not enough of a hand out for business in the SCV. The businesses listed below have taken advantage of the stimulus with no indication of jobs being created. Cheap money at the taxpayers expense.
