November 25, 2009 – Daily Brief

  • Crazed Twilight fans are coming to Santa Clarita to check out a Valencia house that had a 30 second cameo in the film STALKER
  • Finally something I agree with him on: McKeon signs letter asking President Obama for $3 billion more for NASA
  • Saugus burglars prompt school lockdown but ultimately are arrested SIGNAL

  • For those less fortunate there are several free Thanksgiving meals to be had this year. Cheers to Roger Hasper of Newhall Bikes, he’ll be hosting another free dinner for anyone who wants it right in Old Town Newhall SIGNAL
  • Speaking of Turkeys, NBC LA briefly profiles a local activisty who purchased two live turkeys just so she could save them from the slaughter. The Turkeys will eventually be moved to the Gentle Barn, way up Agua Dulce way NBC LA
  • Gary Horton is thankful for California even as we enter another terrible fiscal crisis. He says we compare favorably with tax-friendly Texas, which, by the way, has an 11% illiteracy rate SIGNAL

I may have another Thanksgiving related post today, but if I don’t see you again, have a happy and joyous Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for all the readers of SCVTalk and for living in this community. See you next week!

    The last item on the Agenda was consideration of increasing compensation for City Council members. Rarely has a group of people been so eager to reject a raise. Thus, the City Council serving in 2010 will be paid the same $1,571.67 per month that the present members of the City Council receive. Ferry is stealing from the taxpayers. He is lazy and seems to contribute the least to the taxpayers. Not bad pay for attending a few necessary meetings a month and a bunch of events that are not. McLean seems to believe the later is work as well. We deserve better representation.

    I’m with you Cash. We do deserve better representation. This will be the first election that I do not vote for Laurene Weste. She started out thinking about people and is now in the same mode as the rest of these folks, THE CITY! We MUST make THE CITY look good no matter the cost.

    I give thanks that, but for the grace of God, my family does not need to partake in the generosity of the Food Pantry and those who have donated. May everyone enjoy a holiday meal. Now if I am just able to navigate my way to the couch after dinner…

    Well David Gauny still believes it is up to the taxpayers to bail out our local business community. You can read his commentary in the recent SCV Business Journal. David does not offer suggestions for how the everyday working person will be bailed out as they struggle to make ends meet and as they face more taxes to cover the business handout. It seems clear that David has found, or is looking very hard to find ways to garner the support of local business for his candidacy. Well, if that is the case, do we really want more of the same. We already have a City council that is beholden and influenced by local business and its GOBN. David once made that very case when he opposed the hospital expansion plan. We all remember the Ender, Ferry, G&L reality games.

    Cash: I bring back the last century city council of Joe Nocella from Northbridge, who ran on an unapologetic no-growth program and then went and tried to beg money and space for campaign signs from Newhall Land.
