This is the revised design of the Newhall Library which broke ground in March and came under fire for its looks. It was approved at last night’s City Council meeting:
Old Rendering:
My comments:
- I was afraid a new design would look too western or too Victorian. At first glance, this design strikes a nice balance between the two, incorporating elements from the Victorian buildings on Lyons and some western motifs, especially the windows on the second floor of the big part of the building, which look like 19th Century saloon windows
- Not sure I dig the flat roof on the large part of the building. But I suppose you have to do that to take away the “Ski Lodge” effect
- The entrance looks pretty cool and I hope they inline some text like they do in the rendering
- Apparently the Newhall Library will bring Aston Martin DB9s and Porsche 911s to Newhall
- There is a bicyclist in the picture, which gives me hope.
I hope this makes the detractors happy (or at least less resistant). Now do we know if the front facade is facing down Main Street?
Once we find that out: BUILD. THE. DAMN. LIBRARY
