SCVTalk Exclusive-Castaic High School Site Selection

SCVTalk has learned that Foothill League teams will travel to Romero Canyon to beat the stuffing out of the hapless rump high school that the Hart District will build there!

In a show of solidarity, an originally divided Board counted the votes and agreed to make it a 5-0 decision.

Does this comment mean that all of Rick Patterson’s hopes for wide new roads in Sloan Canyon are dashed?

Props on the scoop, but I was hoping for a “I’ve decided to take my talents to Romero Canyon and build a Castaic High School” or some other LB-Jamesian riff. As I suspected, a closely divided board would count votes ahead of the vote and go 5-0 to put the issue to rest.

I was not very surprised to learn that Rick sold the school foundation property to the Sunset Point developer. What a racket? Yes it is!

Among the two evils, this site is the lesser, and a wise choice. Hasle/Sloan would be tied up for years with lawsuits, and go down in flames, just like last time. The only practical choice that actually gets a HS built was Romero.

I studied the history and topography both sites and spoke with leading advocates of each before I came to my conclusion.

I have been following this issue for at least ten years if not more. I have done fairly extensive research, read a slew of reports, and visited the site myself. I evaluate the Romero Canyon site as the best available property for a high school in the Castaic area that has a real chance to finally become a reality within the next few years. Castaic needs and deserves its own high school. Romero is the best choice. I want to know where and how my tax and bond money dollars are spent. I want promises kept to a community that has been more than patient. I also want students attending Valencia and West Ranch to receive the best education possible without enduring overcrowded conditions and long waiting lists for extracurricular activities like football, etc. The Hart Board made the correct decision.
