- Don Ricketts, the lawyer representing the Save Our Libraries group, has updated his legal complaint and served it to the parties involved, which now includes Los Angeles County. The complaint, which you can read here, has been expanded and has much more detail than the first version.
- Magic Mountain fined $57,000 for releasing poopy, chemical-laden water into the Santa Clara River. The park says it tested the fecal material and found it to be animal, not human, and the new park manager says he can (and here’s the money quote of 2010 so far) “guarantee there is no fecal coliform being discharged from the swimming pool — that’s not happening.” Should I be comforted that children’s poop is not going into the river, or should I be fearful that there is actually children’s poop in the swimming pool? - Letter writer traces the roots of our modern political dysfunction to Walter Cronkite’s retirement. “When he retired and we no longer heard, “That’s the way it is” after Jan. 8, 1992, we no longer had anyone we could rely on for the facts. And it was downhill from there.” LTE

- Chris Sharp, a blogger for the West Ranch Beacon, gushes over Buck McKeon’s literary skills, even invoking (but not directly comparing) Winston Churchill. McKeon “and his staff have been performing this service with possibly the best Churchill-like English arts there is around. If you check the way McKeon’s addresses read in his submissions to the West Ranch Beacon through the archive in his name, you will probably at least agree with me on this one point, even if you are a flaming liberal.” Uhh, no, actually, I find McKeon’s press releases to be run-of-the-mill, uninspiring, and full of focus-group tested phrases straight out of Frank Lutz’ playbook.
