  • Newhall man struck by hit and run driver at 5:20 am yesterday near Hart High. Sheriff’s investigators have no leads and are asking for the public’s help. Jose Trinidad, 30, was on his way to work when he was literally run over. He suffered head trauma and is in critical condition at Henry Mayo Hospital. SIGNAL, KHTS
  • Crazy story: A fire chief with the LA County Fire Department, responsible for building many of the SCV’s fire stations in the last few decades, shot himself dead in front of witnesses in a parking lot in Ventura County late last month. The Signal says Chief Timothy Ottman was under investigation by authorities for something, a fact his wife confirmed. SIGNAL
  • Don Ricketts files suit on behalf of an SCV library user named Ed Shain on the basis of Brown Act violations. The Signal says this is the third lawsuit against the City’s library takeover plans KHTS, SIGNAL, SAVE OUR LIBRARIES
  • Who or what launched a missile from the ocean Monday night 35 miles west of Los Angeles? CRAZY STORY
  • Judge rules against Johnny Pride in his small claims court suit against the Signal, in which he alleged defamation of character. No charges were ever brought against pride by the DA SIGNAL
  • KHTS has your City Council meeting preview
  • Having been rejected charter school status by Newhall School District, Einstein School directors will try their luck with the Hart School District SIGNAL
  • CalTrans will add truck and HOV lanes to I-5 over the next two or three years from the Newhall Pass to Castaic. Now we have the space for Newhall Ranch. Right? SIGNAL
  • Yesterday we read about the challenges facing real estate agents in this tough economy. Maybe this is why: rentals remain strong in Santa Clarita, with average rents increasing SIGNAL
  • A little early in the season isn’t it? Temperatures dropped into the 30s last night, if the weather gauges at Wunderground are to be believed.
  • I was wrong- Dave Bossert is writing commentaries this week and yesterday’s post about the City’s library takeover, the special library tax, and unincorporated resident access to city libraries is a really good one. Basically Bossert says hte City will have to let unincorporated residents use the City’s libraries if the City joins the library cooperative, as it has said its going to do. WRB
  • Further to my post yesterday about Princess Cruises, I’ve been told I was wrong on how many people they employ. Princess actually employs about 1,800 people, double what they did when they first moved here.
  • 18 year old COC student writes jubilant op/ed about meeting Bill Clinton, John Kerry and Jimmy Carter at Democratic rallies in the weeks leading up to the midterm. She’s very excited about her vote SIGNAL

    With all these low temps and increased moisture, maybe it will snow in the SCV. I can then watch with humor at Californians driving in the snow lol
