KHTS Responds

Carl Goldman asked me to post the text below in response to Tim Myers’ post from last week:

Here are the facts on the Edwards Theater/KHTS promotion last Saturday for the Chronicles of Narnia. (KHTS (and Toyota) Engage in Bait and Switch!).

KHTS ran a promotion with Edwards, Valencia for the opening of the Chronicles of Narnia, giving away a number of tickets, both on the radio and on our www.hometownstation.com website. Edwards had games, raffles and prizes they gave away INSIDE the Theater. No purchase was required to go inside the theater to participate. The Toyota display, outside the theater had absolutely nothing to do with either Edwards or KHTS. That was an entirely separate promotion with the owners of the shopping center. We weren’t even aware this was happening until the day of the event.

There was never any mention of a “carnival.” I’ve copied the exact wording of our promotional announcement below. I am assuming the word “chronicles” was heard as “carnival.”

KHTS, Edwards and Toyota are all doing their best in a very challenging economy. We are constantly giving back to our Valley and when we make a mistake, we are the first ones to admit we were wrong. In this case, all of us weren’t even given a chance to address your concerns before the comments were posted.

    Please remind Carl Goldman that the public and taxpayers do plenty for him and the car dealers. This “we give back to the community” spiel is getting kind of old! Business tax breaks, enterprise zones, city government give-a-ways, etc., help business at the taxpayers expense. Who is helping the taxpayer in these “difficult times” Carl?

    Hilarious how this gets stretched into a “conservative” versus “liberal” issue. Seriously laughable how things are now. Wow.

    Petz commends TJMSR for his apology and Carl Goldman for the correction. I guess it was not an attempt to derail the introduction of Nissan’s Leaf on Saturday.

    Obviously Tim you know nothing about radio. I respect your lack of knowledge and interest, probably born of being too lame to be allowed anywhere near a radio studio.

    Why would anyone waste time learning about radio, especially a station that has only enough power to reach west Acton?

    Thank you Mr Goldman for your interest in correcting the record. In these types of event planning people make strategic decisions for a reason. Some person(s) sat in a meeting with Regal management and a local business and pulled the trigger to double book this Narnia event. Who paid Goldman’s advertising air time, the theater, the dealer, Fox, or Walden Media? My bet it on the dealer! Carl is a fine business man, does he provide free air time to Regal? The dealer wanted to be there for spillover eyeballs to view their product, great, I get it. I know two other families who took their family out and thought the dealer was making hay with visitors who came for Narnia activities. These are the slimy snake oil methods car dealers use whenever they get the chance. I know dealers better then most and the methods are a bit in your face when you don’t want them in your face. It’s poor taste, that’s all. People don’t like predatory double booking of events like this. Tim wasn’t the only one bugged by the whole thing. Don’t take it out on him to badly.

    Petz has a certain admiration for Jeff Wilson because he works hard to get the facts reported accurately-he just reaches the wrong opinions. Back in the days of the forum, Petz regularly called TJMSR on the carpet for his opins, but generally found that he has a good comprehension of facts, especially local vote counting and election prognastication.

    Jeff is like your neighborhood heroin dealer. He gives free samples of goodness out and then once you are hooked, cuts you off. Me thinks he is taking too heavy a load in school.
