- Governor Jerry Brown and our very own Cameron Smyth will appear together at a budget forum event Thursday in Santa Clarita at Hart High in Newhall. Only local law enforcement, education and other officials are invited though; this is not a public event. The LA Times says Smyth is the only Republican to agree to visit areas of the state with Brown; Smyth says he wants to hear what people have to say, even if he disagrees with the Governor’s plans. “I’m actually glad that he’s coming to a Republican district. There are a lot of governors who would just isolate themselves with people who share their views. I respect the fact that the governor is going to areas like Santa Clarita and Riverside where he may not have a natural constituency,” Smyth told the Times. SAC BEE, LA TIMES, SIGNAL
- The local GOP group apparently didn’t get the memo that this is unfortunately not a public town hall meeting; in an email blast to followers just minutes ago, the SCV GOP advises local Republicans to “attend this meeting and tell Governor Brown to stop cow-towing to the Unions.”

- Mother of the Year Award: Beatriz Flores, 31, of Lake Los Angeles, was arrested yesterday after Deputies discovered she had hidden heroin baggies in her 14 year old son’s pants. Flores was arrested after being pulled over near Golden Valley High School, and Deputies think she intended to sell heroin and meth-amphetamines in the SCV. She also had an 11 year old in her car. She told the Deputies she was moving the drugs just to make rent, but cops found $1500 in cash on her and what looks like several cell phones, ABC 7 Report, SIGNAL

- Lost in the news last week was an interesting maneuver on the part of House Democrats that forced Buck McKeon and other Republicans to vote no on an even more conservative budget proposal than the one Paul Ryan presented. McKeon, who is a member of the ultra-conservative Study Committee, switched his vote from yes to no on the Study Committee’s budget after Democrats cleverly voted en masse “Present.” The aim of the Dems was to get the Republicans to pass an even more dystopian budget, then hang that budget around the GOP’s necks. - Also, it appears that Buck McKeon is supportive of legislation that would delay or possibly even derail the implementation of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal. The legislation would require armed services Chiefs to “certify” that the military is prepared for the repeal. BLOG
