Council Agenda packed for Tuesday

Tuesday’s City Council meeting will be a heavy hitter with multiple topics to talk about. Among them:

  • Annexation moves forward for the Vista Canyon area, Jakes Way and several other parts of east Canyon Country
  • Another $200,000 in taxpayer dollars to fund the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation, which, it should be admitted, is at least doing good demographic work on behalf of our community
  • No surprise here: the City staff recommends the Council oppose a Legislative bill that would require cities who want to privatize former County libraries to hold public votes before such action is taken. The staff notes that the bill wouldn’t have an impact on Santa Clarita as we already got away with it. But we all know this bill (AB 438) is happening because of what Santa Clarita did last summer.
  • Finally: And so it came to pass that one day, the wise elders of Santa Clarita decided to construct a real median on the roadway known as Lyons Avenue, adjacent to I-5 and Hamburger Hill. And there was much rejoicing among the natives for the clueless I-5 travelers will be restricted in where they are allowed to go by a “raised landscape median” from I-5 to 800 feet east on treacherous Lyons for a cost to the kingdom of only $209,000 gold coins. Woe unto the travellers who attempt a left turn onto Lyons from Vincenzo’s. Insha’Allah, Amen, and L’chaim!
  • Bus cameras coming to the City’s commuter buses. Also, old cameras will be replaced on the City’s local transit fleet. Cost? $471k, but it’s funded through stimulus dollars.
  • “Thank you Babs” coming to a Paseo banner near you? City to voice official support for Senate Bill 759, Senator Barbara Boxer’s Cemex bill. Cemex is like so last year so if you’re interested in what the bill does, head on over to the staff report and read all about it.

    The Thumbs Up / Down should be replaved with one button to report a violation of TOS. Off Topic/ Vulgar language/Personal Attack on Poster. It is not appropriate for opinions regarding content of posts. Petz also urges the elimination of anonymity, let’s find out who the libs really are.

    Anyone who thinks that Petz will silently accept being ignored by the city council on the In God We Trust issue is mistaken.

    One very positive note on the next City Council Agenda is the Safety improvements for the intersections of Rye Canyon Road and Avenue Scott, Whites Canyon Road and Stillmore Street, and Soledad Canyon Road and Galeton Road. While I am most familiar with the intersection of Whites and Stillmore, I congratulate the Traffic Department for taking each of these actions. Left turn accidents have been a major problem at Whites and Stillmore with the last one occurring not one week ago. Thank you Andrew Yi, our residents appreciate you initiating this latest action thereby helping keep our neighborhood safe.

    Funny, but the news from the administration is largely the same as at the beginning. It is big-mouthed speculators and out-of-the-circle wannabees that have “leaked” false embellishments to what was actually released. Loose lips sink ships. And break down credibility. Some don’t get it, that in this instant twitter society, news such as this does not get released immediately. Those who seek to fill the gaps with their own (non-)”facts” are to blame. Example: Saying there was a firefight is not the same as saying Osama was armed. His being shot unarmed was not inconsistent with the official release earlier. It is contradictory with the embellishments made by third parties. Besides, does it occur to anyone that the release of information might be a little slow in order to protect sources, keep the enemy guessing, and to avoid inflaming dissenters who might cause problems for our agents still in-country? Many of the sources for the intel are no doubt still there. They must exit slowly so as to not blow their cover. Or maybe they aren’t exiting at all? Surely Osama was not the only bad guy there being protected by the Pakistanis. Keep the big picture in mind, and don’t get caught up in minutea that in most cases wasn’t even part of the official release in the first place.

    Largely the same? LOL Did they watch it live (Guy in famous choreographed picture claimed they did) That story was changed quickly after there were so many discrepancies in the original story. Wife-mother-daughter who got killed/wounded? Was the order to kill or bring in alive (If the later why did an unarmed man get shot in the head?) If waterboarding is so against our principles what is shooting a unarmed man in the face?
