Nice to see we’re going to have a fireworks show this year despite last year’s tragedy. But is the City being foolish by not shutting down Valencia Blvd, where thousands of people will be sitting, walking, partying? In the video they only speak of shutting down McBean from Valencia to Magic Mountain Parkway.

The city is listening to the Fire Department…. So NO. It would be foolish to ignore and cut the fire department off from large portions of the city on a major holiday. Smart people will do what the smart people last year did and go to the shut down McBean and sit in the street.
  2. JeffJune 11, 2011 at 10:32 pm
Why can’t they close a single lane on Valencia, add K-Rails to protect spectators, and forbid car traffic? Seems to me that would protect spectators and allow emergency traffic too.
  3. NateJune 11, 2011 at 11:16 pm
Who says they aren’t? You didn’t say that though. You asked if it was foolish to NOT shut down Valencia Blvd completely. Personally, I trust the professionals to do their jobs to keep people safe, which includes all the residence on the south eastern part of town who would be put in danger as a result of Valencia Blvd being closed.
  4. JeffJune 11, 2011 at 11:17 pm
I trusted them too, until last year, where several people were injured and one person was killed.
  5. NateJune 12, 2011 at 12:01 am
So you are flat out blaming the city for a few the actions of a few people, this is Amazing. Do you believe government should protect people from themselves? You sound like the Republican who tried to justify profiling because we got attacked by Muslim extremist on 9-11.
  6. ScvFanJune 12, 2011 at 6:29 am
I’m honestly in shock by this statement. I’m really hoping you are just playing the other side to stir up controversy to increase posts. If not, you are blaming the city for a dumb chick’s dangerous behavior. They could shut down ALL streets and cars could still hurt people, Jeff. What about people who sit at bus stop? Should those all be moved? Ya know…I actually hope they eventually cancel the fireworks. And I think they will if people keep blaming them, pointing the liability and demanding more and more. It’s expensive to close down major roads, pay the sheriff’s and fire overtime just for fireworks. Maybe it shouldn’t happen at all and you can all be home and stay safe.
  7. TaTonkaJune 12, 2011 at 9:54 am
What do you have against closed streets?
  8. TaTonkaJune 12, 2011 at 10:39 am
That is priceless!!! Now jeffy is editing my posts. LOL!!!! Welcome to 3rd grade
  9. JeffJune 12, 2011 at 11:37 am
What are you talking about? I have edited no comments.
  10. TaTonkaJune 12, 2011 at 11:40 am
That is VERY STRANGE????? That is not what I posted??? I HAVE BEEN HACKED
  11. NateJune 12, 2011 at 12:25 pm
    This guy is psycho.
  12. CCJune 12, 2011 at 5:29 am
Are you saying that people wouldn’t sit on the k-rails? Honestly Jeff, you can’t protect people from being stupid.
  13. CCJune 11, 2011 at 8:33 pm
I agree Nate. Valencia has to stay open for emergency vehicles, etc. Hopefully, people will think twice about sitting on the curb of a 50 mph highway. I am glad that the fireworks show is going forward. Additional patrols by the Sheriff department would probably be a good plan.
  14. PetzJune 12, 2011 at 3:00 am
The tragedy from last year was coincidental to the fireworks display and not a result of it. Let us not over react to it, nor give the plantiff attorneys ammunition for pending litigation. Speaking of fireworks, shame on Obama and his supporters for not protecting the people of Syria from the chic Assad family that was recently featured in Vogue magazine-a favorite of the progressive left and a Conde Nast publication. This president and his Secretary of State do not have a coherent foreign policy and it is leading to anarchy , death, and destruction across the fertile crescent of the Middle East.
  15. CCJune 12, 2011 at 5:30 am
Shame on Petz, for turning another topic into a far reaching opportunity to bash Obama.
  16. PetzJune 12, 2011 at 6:40 am
Petz knows CC is correct and he struggles with temptation as his sweaty finger hovers over the Post Comment button. But he cares for oppressed people whose voices cry out to be heard around this world. On this Sunday morning, he begs your understanding and forgiveness through grace.
  17. CCJune 12, 2011 at 9:03 am
You had me at “CC is correct”
  18. NateJune 12, 2011 at 8:40 am
Petz stop trolling. No matter what Obama does or doesn’t do you will “shame him” or say you are “madder than hell”.
  19. Whiskey Tango FoxtrotJune 12, 2011 at 10:32 am
Nate, you are as equally partisan as Petz, but do so for the other team.
  20. NateJune 12, 2011 at 10:54 am
The Odd thing about that is I have voted Republican more then Democrat. So… there’s that. And the fact that anyone who knows me. Knows I think the Offense / Defense of partisan political is tantamount to masturbation. Arguing about said partisan politics is like arguing about who pleasures themselves best. It is pointless and weakens our country.
  21. TaTonkaJune 12, 2011 at 11:11 am
Nate you make that claim quite a bit but to this day I have yet to hear you say you were in favor of one republican/conservative policy? Please help us all understand where you are coming from. What republican/conservative policy are you in favor of? What liberal policy are you against? Now it is very easy for the rest of us to answer that simple question so I am positve it will be easy for you.
  22. NateJune 12, 2011 at 11:15 am
This doesn’t surprise me since you suck at listening. I am also not going to try to convince someone who lives in a Vegas and trolls a local blog in Santa Clarita.
  23. TaTonkaJune 12, 2011 at 11:34 am
That was the type of convincing and compelling arguement for your position that we have all come to expect. Thanks for proving the point!
  24. Capt. GeneJune 12, 2011 at 12:16 pm
It’s the liberal way, say whatever you want, don’t worry about proving any of it. It’s great for simpleminded Marys.
  25. NateJune 12, 2011 at 12:31 pm
Should I pull a TaTonka and whine about the name calling…? Speaking of names… why are you two both hiding behind fake ones? How very brave of you to DEMAND ANSWERS from others when you too afraid to even use your real name.
  26. Capt. GeneJune 12, 2011 at 12:35 pm
The boy loves his red herrings.
  27. NateJune 12, 2011 at 12:37 pm
You better watch who you call boy…
  28. Capt. GeneJune 12, 2011 at 1:45 pm
That sounds like a threat, princess.
  29. NateJune 12, 2011 at 2:14 pm
HAHA. How can I could I ever threaten a cowardly chod hiding behind his internet username? I know you don’t have the rocks to say any of this to my face. So TROLL ON. BTW. Don’t bitch about all the “Liberals” calling names…. You now have 3 posts in a row with name calling. And not one of your counterparts is calling you out of it. Apparently it is only NAME CALLING when it isn’t a neocon. WEAK.
  30. TaTonkaJune 12, 2011 at 2:19 pm
Oh Nate? WHY? You are so out there. Now he will call you out and you will not show up again (wisely I will add). Why do you keep doing that to yourself? Just another great reason to come to this site. The laugh keep coming and coming.
  31. Capt. GeneJune 12, 2011 at 2:22 pm
Best I can make out from your incoherent blather is that you are calling me out, is that it? You know how Jeff frowns on that here, so here’s my email: fightafire4hire@aol.com , send me the time and place. Bring your own band-aids, boy.
  32. Capt. GeneJune 12, 2011 at 2:30 pm
I think Nate’s just a little pissed because mommy didn’t match up his Granimals the way he likes. That or the boy’s teething.
  33. NateJune 12, 2011 at 2:38 pm
    Sorry chods. No trolling today.
  34. Capt. GeneJune 12, 2011 at 2:45 pm
“Cowardly chod”, the name fits you perfectly Nate.
  35. LindaJune 12, 2011 at 8:25 am
We argued this topic to death last year, but my opinion hasn’t changed. There are safe places to watch the fireworks and there are not-so-safe places. The city will close one section of street for pedestrians and the mall will be available for those driving in. Anyone who chooses to sit on a curb only feet from tons of metal driving by at 50 mph is taking an unnecessary risk. The city has no obligation to protect anyone from making the decision to take an unnecessary risk. There is no need for people to even cross the street at the crosswalk; there is a pedestrian bridge.
  36. Gang FangJune 12, 2011 at 9:30 am
For those not able or unwilling to view the fireworks show in question, I will be returning from a trip to Mexico days before the 4th. What ensues after that will be more of the “exotic” variety, and open to the public. Local policeman and fire agencies palms have been greased.
  37. LindaJune 12, 2011 at 1:22 pm
Grease and Mexican fireworks — not a good combination! From which area of the city should we expect to see smoke?
  38. Gang FangJune 12, 2011 at 3:12 pm
Who can miss Bill Reynolds & Berta when we have the new love pairing of TaTonka & Capt. Gene? The “time & place” blathering just outright reeks of a Dungeons & Dragons dorkfest. Let it go, it’s the damn internet.
  39. Capt. GeneJune 12, 2011 at 4:34 pm
“Let it go, it’s the damn internet.” Says the guy that jumped right in the middle of it…what, are you bucking for Wizard?
