Jamie Shields, All Star pitcher, Hart High Grad, Pride of SCV

The sign says it all. Wow!

His proud cousin Dean writes in:

James Shields of the Tampa Bay Rays and a grad of Hart High has made his first MLB All-Star game posting a hard luck 8-7 rcord this season. He ranks in the top 10 in most of the big pitching categories with a 2.33 ERA, 137 Strikeouts, a 0.98 WHIP, 3 shutouts, and has held opposing batters to a .210 average this season. He leads the majors with 7 complete games over Roy Halladay with 6 and Pick Offs with 10, the next player has 6.

James is enjoying his best season as a pro. He is married to his wife Ryane and they have 2 daughters together. He is a native of Newhall Ca. WOW!!! Finally got some sports on here!

It seems to me all the best athletes come from Hart High. With Shields’ All Star status, Newhall’s supremacy over the SCV is confirmed in yet another arena (sports).

Speaking of sports, Dean couldn’t help but ding me for the appalling lack of sports coverage on SCVTalk:

It took an All-Star season to get any pub on here at all? Put down your Ipod, Ipad, Ihome and whatever other gadgets you have and watch a good ol’ fashioned game once in a while!

Noted! But I don’t know an RBI from a rib-eye steak so I could use some help. If any of you readers would like to see more SCV-centric sports coverage on SCVTalk, feel free to email me posts or ideas for posts at jeff at scvtalk.com

Congrats Jamie!

Word Mike. No Timothy, but I did go to Bowman high where I graduated, Then On to the ARMY where I served 5 years, 2 in Iraq, earned the ARCOMM with a “V” device for valor, a presidential citation directly from President Bush with a hand shake, a Bronze Star for my work as a personal security officer for VIP’s and the Top 5 in the division to include the Chief of Staff and now I am using my GI Bill where I am almost done earning my Bachelor’s degree. I am also raising a 2 year old girl. Couldnt have done it with out Bowman High, A “continuation school”. Hart High is a fine School!!! Haha…. I hope that didnt come off as too Dick-ish. I knew Timothy was obviously joking. Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in there.

Hey, Thanks Sergeant! Why not use those beni’s? I earned them and need a job!!! haha.
  9. Mr PerezJuly 14, 2011 at 8:11 pm
Too often you have people who earned them but just don’t want to take the extra effort to go to school. With the BAH amount that comes now, I don’t see why someone wouldn’t want to go lol

With the Post 9/11 GI bill, going to school in this valley, they pay my school bill, give me 2,400 a month for BAH (housing allowance) and I am also getting free daycare for my tot on campus. How can you go wrong with that?
  11. Mr PerezJuly 15, 2011 at 12:48 pm
How are they giving you $2400 for BAH? I thought it was the BAH for an E-5 w/dependants rate?

Aren’t the Rays that “A” team in the Florida Instructional League?
  14. van_smackJuly 14, 2011 at 1:09 pm
Look at you! haha No, they are the team that went to the world series 3 years ago after winning the AL East (Red Sox and Yankess) and again to the playoffs last season. My cousin, James Shields, won a world series game for the Rays 3 years ago, the first and only Rays starter in their history to do so. And they are right there again this year without the 200 mill payroll the Red Sox and Yankess enjoy every year. Nice try again!
