My Work has Not been in Vain: Four Elections Cancelled and Only ONE Serious (perhaps) Candidate

I have written thousands of words about the power of incumbency in local politics, and with the ballots finalized for the November 2011 ballots it appears that my work has not been in vain, to wit:

Castaic Union School District-NO CHALLENGERS

Newhall County Water District-NO CHALLENGERS

Newhall School District and Special Election-NO CHALLENGERS

Michele Jenkins Seat on COC Board-NO CHALLENGERS

For the remaining races, there is only one “serious” contender-Diana Shaw against Bruce Fortine who might actually lift a finger to attempt to attempt to win the race. For Hart Board and Sulphur Springs Board, and the COC seat held by Scott Wilk, we may have some “serious minded” candidates (they are truly interested in serving) but who have no “serious” plans to actually mount a campaign.

That leaves the Saugus Union School District where one Steven Winkler will contend with the two incumbents for two seats. Political insiders will know why I developed a new category of candidate called “serious minded” as contrasted with “serious,” and why Steven Winkler is in a category all his own.

You’re right, Tim, you have written thousands of words on incumbency, the same thousand words again and again and again and again and again. We get it: they win. (The who’s-running update is appreciated, though.)

As a guy born and raised in a city (Burbank) with one school district for all elementary, middle and high schools for the entire city, can I point out how re-damn-diculous it is that we have so many school districts???? And, for that matter, different water districts, yet still all under the same “agency”? How exactly does that work???? No wonder nobody wants to run. You’re guaranteed irrelevance. BTW, I’m running unopposed for the Todd’s House Sanitation District. Endorsed by my wife. I predict a landslide and 100% of the vote.

Does anyone know the name or link to that other forum? No slight on you Tim, but I really miss a more routine interaction and from all appearances, Jeff has moved on.

Well, I kinda thought so, but it was getting extended. I’m glad to hear he’ll be back. I got stuff to say! Also, recently I have received all kinds of 404 errors for this site. Has it been hacked?

I asked Jeff last week why I couldn’t seem to bring the site up. This is what he had to say: “It’s been under what is called a “Distributed Denial of Service” attack all week. Basically a group of attackers floods the site with requests, which causes it to act slow or simply go down. The web host is working on it. “

Sorry to here that. While I am generally against capital punishment website hackers and virus writers deserve exceptions.

I’ve had to clean 2 instances of malware on my computer in the same time period and I don’t visit that many sites. I hate to say it, but this site is my number 1 suspect at the moment. Hope he can work the problems out.

Glad to see a new face running for the Sulphur Springs Board. They need a bit of a shakeup. None of the current Trustees have kids in the district. They have been “managed” by the Superintendent – Bob Nolet for years. When I’d get their board summaries, there didn’t seem to be much of a discussion about academic performance – rather the discussion was centered on purely administrative routine types of issues. They continue to trail peers on testing. Time for a change.
