The state’s Department of Corrections will require convicted sex offender William Babb to stay out of the neighborhood in which his victim, a boy, lives. But there’s more to this story than meets the eye- the DoC says it didn’t notify the boy’s mother because she didn’t request notification. I thought the law required the DoC to notify victims; you didn’t have to “opt-in” to be on the notification list. SIGNAL
AB 438, the bill written in direct response to Santa Clarita’s seizure of the COLA libraries, passed the Senate yesterday and wili be on its way to the Governor’s desk after a brief pit stop in the Assembly. The bill would require cities to prove that privatization of library services would save the public money, similar to requirements for other public agencies seeking to privatize services. MERC NEWS
The Los Angeles County Lincoln Club has endorsed Patricia McKeon for the 38th Assembly District race over Scott Wilk, a move that could further divide local Republicans. Wilk, who serves on the COC board and organized Santa Clarita’s redistricting efforts, enjoys support from many SCV Republicans and Tea Party members.
Speaking of Pat McKeon, she officially announced her candidacy for the 38th Assembly District Thursday. Issuing a press release, she said that “Sacramento is a mess” controlled by lobbyists and special interests. The Signal says she is focusing on fundraising and building a volunteer base SIGNAL
Speaking of the 38th, outgoing Assemblyman Cam Smyth was one of only two GOP votes in the Assembly for Governor Brown’s tax reform proposal. Smyth says the bill is good for the state and for job. Smyth- the great moderate GOP rep from the SCV? CONTRA COSTA TIMES, LA TIMES
Hart District board approves the sale of $70 million in bonds to further fund Castaic High SIGNAL
Also, the Hart District is looking to modify its drug policy. Specifically the new policy will ban named drugs, unauthorized prescriptions and synthetic drugs SIGNAL
Car dealers are ecstatic over the amount of cars they sold over the Labor Day weekend. One of them said it felt like 2008 again. And Don Fleming says he has only 18 new Acuras left. Overall auto row sold 450 new cars last weekend. Also partying will be our City’s balance sheet as sales tax rolls in SIGNAL

As I understand it, The Lincoln Club endorsed Patricia McKeon without interviewing Scott Wilk, although he requested it. The Lincoln Club made an unnecessary rush to judgment before all qualified candidates have declared. Honest Abe must be spinning in his grave.

Petz: They are taking pages out of the Santa Clarita City Council playbook. Why waste the time interviewing and discussing when the conclusion is foregone?

Who knew Pat McKeon has such an ironic sense of humor: “Issuing a press release, she said that “Sacramento is a mess” controlled by lobbyists and special interests.” Has she looked around the Santa Clarita Valley lately? Can she understand what her husband’s compadres have been doing since he was Mayor of Santa Clarita? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
