Trautman endorses TimBen Boydston

Diane Trautman, former planning commissioner and 2008 City Council candidate, says you should vote for TimBen Boydston. Her endorsement letter is pasted below:

I endorse TimBen Boydston for the Santa Clarita City Council. Let me tell you why.

Serving the public in an elected or appointed position is a privilege. It is also a difficult and time-consuming job for those who are truly dedicated to doing the necessary work. It takes hundreds of hours each month to read all pertinent materials, thoroughly review and research projects and proposals, and bring new ideas to the table.

During TimBen Boyston’s 16 months as a City Council Member, he clearly demonstrated that he was up to the task. People who watched the televised meetings or attended them could tell the difference between those who had done their homework and those who hadn’t. The public could also tell which members of the council were listening and responsive to them — TimBen and Bob Kellar — and which were dismissive, if not openly hostile.

TimBen asked every relevant question to further his own understanding and to allow the public to hear the answers, which is the point of public hearings. He displayed a passion for truth and fair play and didn’t shy away from challenging what he considered incomplete or erroneous information.

In our council-manager form of government, it is the job of the city council to set policies and priorities in accordance with the needs and wishes of the entire community. The job requires responsive and responsible leaders who will move Santa Clarita in the right direction. TimBen Boydston is just such a leader.

I urge you to vote for TimBen Boydston on April 10th.

I am honored to have the endorsement of Diane Trautman. She is an incredibly smart and hard working women who was a a great planning commissioner. Her support means the world to me. The office of City Council is a non-partisan one, and one of the great joys of this campaign (as well as the last one) has been the multi-partisan participation that we have enjoyed. Independents, Republicans, Democrats, DTS, and even a few Green party members have joined together and worked because they believe that there needs to be a change at City Hall. This working together has been terrific and I have seen so much respect from everyone for everyone. Whatever happens Tuesday will neither dim nor brighten the participatory Democracy that has flowered in our little corner of the world. It is special because we the people have the freedoms that are afforded to us by those who have sacrificed their blood and treasure. Please do not forget to show that you remember and are grateful for those sacrifices. Vote.

I really like Diane. Anyone who watched the Planning Commission could plainly see that she put in the work. I would really like to see the City Council get back to its roots and be about the citizens of this city. TBB is a path to that end. My vote has already been cast.
  3. NateApril 8, 2012 at 11:55 am
Diane Trautman? Really? You are actually proud of being endorsed by LA County’s Darling? You already have David Bossert touching himself when he thinks of you…. Why is it that everyone who loves LA County and hates the city loves you? What’s next big guy… Mike Antonovich to complete the trio of smug hateful city haters? Bravo. Vote Denied.
  4. Alan FerdmanApril 8, 2012 at 2:57 pm
Nate Diane Trautman a City Hater?? Diane was one of the best Planning Commissioners Santa Clarita ever had. She put a lot of time and effort in her position and made every effort to do what was best for our City. TimBen should be proud to be endorsed by Diane Trautman. It is another good reason to vote Boydston and Kellar on Tuesday.
  5. NateApril 8, 2012 at 5:42 pm
Diane Trautman was Mike Antonovich’s pet he kept in his pocket. TBB should be ashamed both at how he pronounces Santa Clarita and how he would sells out to anyone he thinks will get him ahead.
  6. it is what it isApril 9, 2012 at 7:46 am
And with that, Nate has absolutely lost all credibility on this blog… forever!
  7. Capt. GeneApril 9, 2012 at 7:54 am
    It’s about time!
  8. NateApril 9, 2012 at 7:56 am
Oh no a guy with a fake name doesn’t think I have credibility… sometimes the truth hurts.
  9. PetzApril 8, 2012 at 10:25 am
TBB has built a community support alliance from the left and the right,….the result will be interesting. If nothing else….this can be a source of pride for him at the end of the day April 10.
  10. AlpinerApril 8, 2012 at 2:37 pm
I agree with Petz. His endorsements from both right and left is a statement in itself of the faith people have in TimBen’s ability to hear both sides of an issue and choose the best course for the city without caving simply to “good old boy” city politics.
  11. RemStarApril 8, 2012 at 10:34 am
WOW! TBB saved the “game changing” blockbuster endorsements for last!! The demonstration of grassroots volunteer support this weekend for Mayor Laurie Ender, plus the effective mailers Mayor Laurie Ender has been sending to targeted voters, must concern TBB’s followers. Mayor Laurie Ender has shown a stronger ground game (volunteers) and air superiority (mailers).
  12. LarMccApril 8, 2012 at 10:49 am
Seeing as most of the ballots have been cast and are sitting in the clerks office, Laurie Ender is showing up to the game in the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter. I and most of my neighbors have gotten 2 mailers from Ender and someone canvassed our neighborhood with Ender flyers. Seeing as we are one of the communities negatively affected by the hospital, it would be a cold day in hell before most of the people in this neighborhood vote for Ender. You may call that targeting voters, I call it poor planning from a desperate and scared candidate.
  13. Angelo CandelabraApril 8, 2012 at 11:27 am
Respectfully, sir, I disagree. Two years ago Frank Ferry ran up a substantial lead among absentee voter but ran well behind among the 34% of the voters who cast ballots on election day. Many absentee voters are poorly informed and cast their ballot because it magically arrived in the mail; the default for these citizens is to vote for incumbents. Targeting election day voters (high propensity non-absentee voters) is therefore a wise strategy; Ms. Ender need not win among this group, but limiting a loss among this segment of the electorate (something the Ferry “campaign” did not attempt) would seal victory. The re-election campaign of Ms. Ender was planned and is guided by a professional political consultan,t and this has been their strategy from the start. Ms. Ender appears to have executed her campaign plan with precision and is finishing very strong.
  14. LarMccApril 8, 2012 at 2:42 pm
I am not a statistician. But it would seem to me that with 12,000 ballots already cast and just 2,000-4,000 to be cast on the 10th (per Tim), Ender would need to get a very high percentage of the vote cast to pull ahead. I would think it would be more wise to wage a campaign from the start, with surges around the time absentee ballots drop and just before the election. Ender has done little up until a few weeks ago. I would agree that most voters, presumably absentees as well, are largely uninformed. This election will be a test to the power of the incumbency, IMHO. I am sure we will get a breakdown from the SCVT team and see how the numbers panned out.
  15. Jim FarleyApril 8, 2012 at 11:09 am
I agree with LarMcc. Ender is the one who seems to be acting scared right now. The TimBen campaign started long before the ballots were mailed and was well organized from the beginning. As stated above when you look at the group of volunteers that have come together to push TimBen over the top you see folks from all spectrum’s of the political scale working together for our common goal. While those of us assembled differ on the broader political issues, what we have in common is a very good understanding of issues in the city. I would put any one of our volunteers up against an Ender volunteer in a debate on the important issues within our city. We are a lot more motivated than her volunteers. Nobody knows how this will all turn out but I’m trusting our motivation and effort will make the difference.
  16. NateApril 8, 2012 at 11:59 am
ohhhhh you both have powers to know how people feel. Ender running campaign must be because she is scared of TBB. What are we to make of Kellar breaking his back to raise more money than anyone? This isn’t because he is scared? I love how the candidate you don’t like is scared but the candidates you like who act more desperate than anyone get a pass.
  17. Jim FarleyApril 8, 2012 at 12:22 pm
Nate, Simply a response to RemStar commenting on how the TBB followers must be feeling. Did you really read what I said? If you think TimBen is “acting desperate” you are so wrong and out of touch with reality.
  18. NateApril 8, 2012 at 2:31 pm
You are acting desperate to down play your own hypocrisy.
  19. Capt. GeneApril 8, 2012 at 2:59 pm
“You are acting desperate to down play your own hypocrisy.” #comedygold
  20. NateApril 8, 2012 at 5:45 pm
Hey Capt. Crunch I got your threatening email the other day… really my only question is will your daughter come too?
  21. Capt. GeneApril 8, 2012 at 7:25 pm
Threatening? All I did was offer you the opportunity to say to my face the things that so far you have only had the courage to say from your mom’s basement. There was no threat. I noticed you didn’t respond. Typical.
  22. NateApril 8, 2012 at 7:56 pm
Oh did you notice I didn’t respond? Have you been waiting with baited breath hitting the refresh button? I am flattered.
  23. Capt. GeneApril 8, 2012 at 9:09 pm
No I didn’t expect you to respond, because you’re not man enough to say anything about my daughter to my face, you’re a coward with a keyboard. I always knew this, now the rest of Santa Clarita knows as well. Sleep tight princess.
  24. NateApril 8, 2012 at 10:43 pm
I never said anything ABOUT your daughter… I just ask you how she was doing. You can read into all you want… fact is you got a taste of your own medicine. Drink that troll juice up sweet cheeks.
  25. Capt. GeneApril 9, 2012 at 6:54 am
    Continued cowardice.
  26. NateApril 9, 2012 at 7:00 am
Whatever you say “brave” guy with fake name.
  27. Capt. GeneApril 9, 2012 at 7:13 am
My name is as real as yours. I’m not the one going after people’s children then refusing to say to their face what I say from a computer, duchess.
  28. NateApril 9, 2012 at 8:06 am
Imagine that a troll demanding someone to say something to their face… typical extremist tea party types. Where was your outrage when Rush and Glenn beck actually went after Obama’s daughter. So come on Captain light up the Troll signal and get John Ramirez to make some reference from 12 years ago.
  29. LarMccApril 8, 2012 at 1:51 pm
This is not a candidate issue, I would call it like this no matter who was involved. Fact is that it was just a few short weeks ago that Ender finally launched her facebook page and website. There seems to be a sudden surge from Ender in the past week alone. Two weeks ago, I saw no Ender signs up around town. Now, I see them quite a few places. The fact that I got two Ender mailers and one Ender flyer on my porch the same day should tell you something.
  30. NateApril 8, 2012 at 2:29 pm
It is called strategy. TBB should have tried it instead of the make sign that can be seen from space strategy.
  31. AlpinerApril 8, 2012 at 2:40 pm
Where? I live in Northbridge and have seen and heard nothing (unlike her first run) from the Ender camp other than the typical mailings, which TimBen has also countered. Ender has proven that just because someone is good in the local PTA, does not mean she would make a good council member, let alone mayor.
  32. Jim FarleyApril 8, 2012 at 10:58 am
Excellent well stated endorsement letter by Diane! She hits all the main reasons why we should be voting for TimBen Boydston. Way to go Diane!
  33. BrianBApril 8, 2012 at 1:41 pm
If Ender is acting scared, does that mean TimBen put signs up at churches on Easter Sunday because he is scared?
  34. BrianBApril 8, 2012 at 1:59 pm
LarMcc I agree Ender seems scared. So does TimBen.
  35. NateApril 8, 2012 at 2:27 pm
    What about Hatami?
  36. LarMccApril 8, 2012 at 3:00 pm
It’s in the bag for Hatami. I am sure he is writing an original acceptance speech right now. Probably will begin ‘Four score and seven years ago, I decided to run for council.’
  37. NateApril 8, 2012 at 6:29 pm
    HAHAHA.
  38. PetzApril 8, 2012 at 2:50 pm
Hatami put an under on the windshield of my wife’s car while it was parked in the driveway today. Rather tacky I thought.
  39. BrianBApril 8, 2012 at 3:06 pm
Everyone here is invited to the Hatami victory party.
  40. NateApril 8, 2012 at 6:30 pm
Juking Jon giving a new meaning to the word victory.
  41. SCV Republican SupporterApril 8, 2012 at 4:00 pm
The endorsement by Trautman is irrelevant. She never came close to getting elected. Her supporters were already going to TimBen. I did not vote absentee, but still received a lot of early mail from TimBen. Laurie on the other side did not send me anything until two weeks before and concentrated on me with three excellent mailers. Still a mystery why no Kellar mailers, although nice full page Signal ad. She is smart not to take it for granted. Two years ago when Frank led by 800 votes after the absentees everyone thought he had won. Gauney almost came all the way back. Laurie is not making that mistake. It maybe somewhat tight, but Ender should still prevail. In regards to LarMcc’s comments regarding being in a neighborhood negatively affected by the Hospital, that is absurd. Being close to the hospital is a benefit for your health. I know that from personal experience. That remains a win issue for Ender.
  42. NateApril 8, 2012 at 6:31 pm
Kellar is using all the cash on top notch scotch at a victory party of one.
  43. LarMccApril 8, 2012 at 7:08 pm
No, being close to the freeway is a benefit to your health if you live in this valley: http://www.the-signal.com/archives/45871/ The massive commercial development Ender and the Gang of Four© approved benefited their campaigns, the hospitals and the developers bank accounts. There is no guarantee of the hospital tower being built. Zero, none, nada. I know my neighbors. We know Kellar stood by us, the rest (including Ender) sold out.
  44. SCV Republican SupporterApril 8, 2012 at 8:29 pm
Once again misguided. The future will prove us hospital supporters right.
  45. Need for Involved CitizenryApril 9, 2012 at 5:49 am
Supporter: I had an extensive conversation with the hospital director in charge of planning and PR. She was very evasive about their plans for a new inpatient tower. The bottom line: They’ve not yet hired an architect to actually begin real plans that could be submitted for approvals, they don’t know how much money they need or where it will come from, they throw a year out there for completion but without the funding or plans that is just a joke and to top it off, she said their occupancy percentage is just 75%. You don’t go building a new patient tower until your close to being full and it will take minimum 5+ years from the time they hire an architect to do real plans. You’ve been drinking some bad kool-aide.
  46. LarMccApril 9, 2012 at 6:45 am
We support the hospital too. All of us want top quality health care in our valley. Henry Mayo has had a bad reputation since at least the 80′s when it was known as Hold the Mayo. They have had almost four years since this development deal was signed to turn things around, and I am not sure it is happening. If I recall, I just saw the nurses out front protesting a couple weeks back. We keep hearing all these empty promises and we are again supposed to wait for the “future” to see improvements. Well known Henry Mayo physician Dr. Gene Dorio recently came out and supported Kellar/Boydston: http://westranchbeacon.com/2012/04/letter-to-the-editor-our-health-our-election/

    Always playing catch-up.
  53. MikeApril 9, 2012 at 8:23 am
    This is getting old.
  54. Capt. GeneApril 9, 2012 at 8:32 am
Mike, I agree. This is the last thing I will post on the subject. The work is done; Nate has been shown to be a coward by a. going after innocent family and b. refusing to say to one’s face what they say on the web. A coward like that does not deserve any more of my time.
  55. Capt. GeneApril 9, 2012 at 7:14 am
“Taste of your own medicine”, in case you were wondering.
  56. BrianBApril 9, 2012 at 8:01 am
Why is everyone quiet about Boydston putting up election signs at churches on Easter Sunday?
  57. it is what it isApril 9, 2012 at 8:14 am
Dirty tricks from the Hatami campaign?
  58. ExpiredApril 9, 2012 at 8:19 am
Has Nate ever even had credibility? I always just thought Nate was an extension of Mike D? Lol, this is a funny little back and forth banter however. Thanks for the comedy SCVTalk. On the subject of TBB signs on church property. I saw that also. I feel that TBB was out of line placing signs there on Easter Sunday.
  59. MikeApril 9, 2012 at 8:29 am
Quite the opposite. There is an extension of me, and that extension is Nate’s worst enemy.
  60. NateApril 9, 2012 at 8:31 am
    Expired… like sour milk?
  61. Capt. GeneApril 9, 2012 at 8:35 am
Expired, Mike deserves an apology for that.
  62. BrianBApril 9, 2012 at 8:19 am
Are you implying the Hatami campaign placed Boydston signs at churches on Easter to make him look bad? What nonsense. TimBen and scvtalk have been very quiet about this, of course.
  63. LarMccApril 9, 2012 at 8:22 am
We are all hard at work organizing a Hatami victory party, so you’ll have to excuse us.
  64. NateApril 9, 2012 at 8:23 am
    HAHA.
  65. NateApril 9, 2012 at 8:23 am
No one views Hatami as a legitimate candidate.
  66. it is what it isApril 9, 2012 at 8:31 am
What I’m saying is you are making an issue up out of thin air. That’s the dirty trick. It’s BS, and you and I know it. Hatami will be lucky to come in 4th. He doesn’t know the issues, has not participated in one thing in the SCV of any merit, conveniently changed his registration to Republican in Dec 2011 and opined that Republican is the racist party at the SCVRA meeting. He’s a loose cannon at best, and with your post, shows how desperate he is for votes. Your little stirring of the pot means nothing. Have Jon respond here at scvtalk. That should be good for a laugh.
  67. NateApril 9, 2012 at 8:37 am
It is true… I still believe Team Hatami was behind the church vandalism incident in some kind of pathetic attempt to make himself look relevant. Juking Jon has ditched his twitter account altogether. He just wrote this very amusing post on facebook… We have run a very positive campaign. We have stayed on message. We had numerous volunteers going door-to-door on Saturday. I am very proud of our efforts. I am also so thankful for all of my supporters. On Tuesday, lets show the City of Santa Clarita what a grassroots campaign is all about. If you want someone with honesty, integrity, and character in your City Council, VOTE for JON HATAMI this Tuesday.
  68. BrianBApril 9, 2012 at 9:24 am
Hatami is scared? That’s why he blasted churches with signs and hired people to twirl signs on the side of the road? No, that was the Boydston/Kellar campaigns. We will see tomorrow. Either way, Nate will have nothing much to post on his JuKing Jon account.
  69. NateApril 9, 2012 at 9:41 am
Hatami didn’t do that because he didn’t have the paper. How much did you donate to his hopeless candidacy?
  70. BrianBApril 9, 2012 at 10:01 am
Not a fraction as much as I would pay to see you meet Capt Gene in person.
  71. NateApril 9, 2012 at 10:02 am
I will be happy to invoice you…
  72. BrianBApril 9, 2012 at 10:14 am
    ……what?
  73. spineflower2April 9, 2012 at 11:11 am
I respect TBB for the same reason I respect Trautman. They put in the work to make informed decisions. They don’t phone it in. They listen. I dont ‘always agree with them but neither has ever made me feel they weren’t giving me their thoughtful attention, or made a decision without doing the research first. This has been sorely lacking on the Council. TBB will energize the council and the public– just what we need!
