- A 45 year old Castaic man was killed when his truck clipped a sign on I-5 north near Valencia Blvd, then "went airborne and struck a tree," according to the TIMES. The Signal says the victim, Anthony Friel, was a long-time SCV resident and worked as a stagehand. SIGNAL
- Last year, the Hart District nearly took out a Capital Appreciation Bond for $70 million for school construction, but would have had to pay back $700 million in the next 40 years. That, according to a San Diego paper which described a similar confiscatory bond proposal in San Diego county. Ultimately Hart's board had to be persuaded by the County that the bond was too risky. - Realtors say the high number of short sales in the SCV are responsible for median single family home and condo prices declining $10,000 and $25,000 since June. That's a 2.7% decline in SFR prices and a whopping 12% decline in condo prices. And yet demand remains high. Wacky, isn't it? SCVNEWS
- NBC News continues its good coverage of the Acosta lawsuit against Tundra Security, the Canadian firm that hired an Afghan national who shot Spc. Rudy Acosta to death in May of last year. In today's report we learn that Rudy Acosta was just "weeks away from coming home to Santa Clarita" before he was shot and killed. Rudy's father Dante says Acosta wanted to be a surgeon and had planned on getting married when he returned home. NBC NEWS
- A former USAF Staff Sgt. is bicycling across the country to deliver 14,000 petitions demanding that Congressman Buck McKeon investigate systematic sexual assaults that have occurred at Lackland Air Force base in Texas. She will arrive at the Capitol in October. HUFF PO
