There's no doubt McKeon has had a rough year and a half. He's angered many in the SCV over hispoor handling dismissal of the CEMEX issue. If you're concerned about green-on-blue violence in Afghanistan and you live in CA-25, you'd think McKeon, as chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, would be your guy. But he was tone-deaf on the Acosta killing to the point where Acosta's father ran against him in the primary and shaved off 10 points from McKeon. And then there's the controversies: Countrywide, running his wife against popular local GOP man Scott Wilk, and his wife's 6 figure salary for working as his campaign treasurer.
But these aren't Dem-friendly parts, even in a new and different 25th District that includes Simi Valley where Buck isn't a household name.
So can Rogers win? I think he's the best Democratic candidate since Robert Rodriguez in 2006. Rogers is moderate Dem and he is liked by many Republicans in Santa Clarita. He is running a solid campaign and has made many appearances here in town. His consultant group runs several other sitting members of Congress, and he enjoys popular local Democratic support, to the point that fans are cranking out web videos for him:
