KHTS & Signal reporting, ctd

To the former Signal staffer who said Morris Media Gerogia isn't really the problem, another former Signal reporter responds:

I could be wrong, but I'm inclined to think that "former Signal journalist" didn't spend enough time on the payroll to realize that, for real yo, a BIG part of the problem absolutely IS in Georgia. I say this as someone who gave more than half a decade of their life to The Signal and never spent time "cozying up to the city." (Hey, I didn't even accept a free bottle of water from Gail O. until after I'd left the paper). Yes, there are tenacity issues in the newsroom, and even more particularly in senior executive management.
But until someone locally or regionally invests in wresting ownership away from the profit-driven Morrises, I believe it will continue to be a subpar product. (John Boston addressed this quite eloquently in a recent column over at the SCV Bacon.) But now I'm rambling, and what does this have to do with KHTS? I say, good for them for hiring Perry. Dude is a newsroom asset.

Exactly. Morris keeps the Signal around to extract wealth out of this valley and gives us a very sub-par product in return. What we've need, and I've said this for years, is a weatlhy, civic-minded person in the SCV to buy the paper and run it at a loss if necessary.

Aren't there any SCV plutocrats with big egos left? A 21st Century William Randolph Hearst or Scott Newhall?
