Verizon 4G LTE now activated in SCV

In some Twitter discussion with SCV iPhone people yesterday, I learned that Verizon's high speed 4G LTE wireless network had finally been implemented in the SCV. This, two days after I hassled a Verizon store employee in the mall about Big Red's long-delayed plans to give us the juice.

Well, as you can imagine, I was eager to get home and test it out myself. Not only did I have blazing speeds, but the coverage at my home in Newhall was much stronger than the old 3G Signal. I performed three tests and got 24mb/s down and around the same speed up all three times!

What's more, I think we'll continue to enjoy abnormally high 4G speeds in the SCV even as more 4G phones are sold because the SCV is less dense than say, the SFV, where I've noticed 4G speeds have tended to drop off as more 4G phones are sold.

With my phone and corporate plan, I enjoy unlimited data both on the phone itself and while it is acting as 4G WiFi hotspot. So tonight I plan to commence testing the 4G Signal out and seeing if it is an adequate (or even superior) internet connection for my home. I just got a new WiFi-enabled Smart TV that I plan to connect to the phone and stream NetFlix & HBO Go through. If it works, there will be no more intolerable pauses during Boardwalk Empire or Modern Family....the Verizon 4G LTE connection is approximately 12x faster than my old landline DSL connection!
