Local Conservatives were alarmed Thursday to learn that a European-style socialist traffic circle will be built in Newhall just days after President Barack Obama was re-elected president, Notes from Newhall has learned.
The long-feared socialist traffic management tool will get a fresh look by the City Council next Tuesday, during their regularly scheduled meeting.
"Barack Obama promised to fundamentally change American society. That means he's not just going to takeover our healthcare system and replace them with death panels or whittle down our military to one the size of Bermuda's, it also means he's going to apply socialist principles to traffic management," said local conservative Steve Petzold on Facebook.
European-style socialist traffic circles planned and built during the Bush Administration are already in use at Hasley Canyon and the mall. But Petzold says the one planned for Newhall is different.
"Obama is fundamentally transforming traffic patterns in our cultural bedrock, Newhall," he said.
Conservative critics of the circles point out that the socialist design allows motorists to proceed unhindered as they negotiate the intersection, unlike American intersections which require some motorists to stop but let others go.
"The key feature of these socialist traffic circles is that they are designed for equality of momentum. Every motorist is equal to every other motorist, no matter what car they drive. Everyone just rolls through together. It's the socialist dream," Ray Kutylo, another local conservative remarked.
"I've read through this thing several times," Petzold said, holding out a copy of the US Constitution. "And I can't find anything in here guaranteeing Equality of Momentum where you can just roll through an intersection as if you were equal to everyone else," he said.
Kutylo fears that this is just the first step in Obama's plan for transforming American traffic management.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Obama is planning to force us all to ride bicycles and do away with red, green and yellow traffic lights. Well, maybe not the red light," he said.
City officials emphasize the circles are simply good traffic management tools and not part of a Socialist-style traffic policy imposed by the Obama administration.
But local conservatives remain unconvinced.
"By the end of hte year, we'll probably have a statue of Hugo Chavez or Saul Alinsky built in the Socialist-Realist style in the center of that traffic circle," Petzold said.
"We told Americans this would happen if Obama got elected again," Petzold said.
