- In a Sunday editorial, the Signal all but alleged that the leadership of the Albert Einstein Academy is trying to scam school districts in the SCV. Saying that they "applaud Saugus Union's judiciousness in distributing public funds," the Signal says parents who want an Einstein Elementary school ought to just get on with it and "open a private school." - Speaking of, Einstein has announced it will try to get charter school status from the Acton-Agua Dulce School District. They even say that if they were granted charter school status they could operate in Saugus. Luke Money has the details about their latest wacky plans SIGNAL
- The City of Santa Clarita says it has re-timed and synchronized some 100 traffic signals in the valley, but then had to comply with a new federal mandate to allow pedestrians more time to use crosswalks. So they've re-adjusted again, one years ahead of the mandate's deadline. That said have you ever noticed how long it takes to cross a street after you've pushed the crosswalk button? In the City of LA, it generally halts traffic in about 30 seconds; but near my house I usually have to wait 2 minutes or longer. SIGNAL
- Buck Stops Now blog has a good piece on the controversy over Brad Dacus speaking at Thursday's Mayors Prayer Breakfast. The anti-gay activist and lawyer will be the keynote speaker at the event, and a flyer promoting it shows his picture alongside Mayor Kellar, who said last week he would attend. The blog also calls out Hart Board member Joe Messina for being a talk show host and "operating in direct opposition to Hart District's stated mission" of valuing diversity. - Kudos to Dave Bossert for his roll-out of a new www.SCVBeacon.com site. The site looks much less cluttered than the old one and features the Beacon's columns along the top. It looks good. To kick things off for the renovated site, the Beacon's Karen Jonas sat down for an interview with new City Manager Ken Striplin, who says his biggest goal is to "build up the quality of life in Santa Clarita and make sure it's sustainable." As for annexation and relations with the west side of the SCV, Striplin says the City isn't "looking to annex any of the West Side yet," but is open to working with west side interests. INTERVIEW
- Adventures on Highway 14: A man apparently jumped or fell from his truck, landed in the carpool lane, and somehow miraculously survived. The Signal even got an eyewitness report of the scary scene SIGNAL And then yesterday, a woman driving on the 14 spotted a huge snake in her car. She was so startled she almost collided with another car, but pulled over, got her dogs out and called the CHP, who took the snake into custody. SNAKES IN A CAR
- Work has begun on a big upgrade to The Master's College gym in P-Canyon. Broken down into three phases, the work includes installing Air Conditioning (the current gym has none), then a new lobby and finally a new plaza. The renderings look pretty stunning and shouldn't upset the Placerita Power Posse too much. KHTS
- In crime, an alert female Deputy nabs four in a stolen Dodge Charger (and finds meth too!), two light poles are stolen from a Valencia neighborhood (???), and mega-church Grace Baptist organizes a family day at Pitchess Detention center, where inmates can spend time with their children and loved ones to "help break the cycle of crime and separation from families."
- Buck McKeon calls out President Obama after reports reveal that Syria has used chemical weapons in its ongoing civil war. "I do question the utility of red lines if they lack meaningful consequences," he told POLITICO

- Dave Bossert says the verbal tiff between Councilmen Boydston and Ferry two weeks ago was embarrassing for the City and he dislikes Boydston for "grandstanding" and bringing up the old Mayor Dude campaign. And he said he couldn't help but laugh when Ferry called himself a tiger and Boydston a sheep. "All the more reason why the April 2014 election is so important for the future of the Santa Clarita Valley....the city needs fresh, intelligent professionals elected that will put the good of the citizens first," Bossert concludes.
