  • Nine car injury pileup on southbound Highway 14 this morning. Multiple people reported to have been whisked off to the hospital as traffic was backed up all the way to the Antelope Valley. TIMES
  • Six cruisers and multiple deputies with guns drawn arrested a sleeping couple in stolen van at Valencia Marketplace shopping center yesterday morning. SIGNAL
  • Facebook member Julie went to SUSD's board meeting last night and says that SUSD Board officials reported to the public that they have indeed taken the proper steps to vacate the seat that once belonged to Stephen Winkler, in contrast to reporting done by KHTS. FACEBOOK
  • This is why we can't have nice things: College of the Canyons suddenly enforces rule prohibiting general public from walking or using the college's stadium and track & field. COC Athletic Director Chuck Lyon tells the Cougar News that COC has been sued by members of the public, so they've chosen to lock down the track. Some are upset. COUGAR NEWS
  • Detectives still looking for the two men who allegedly stabbed a man attending a BBQ at a Newhall apartment complex on Sunday. The Detectives want to talk to the stabbing victim but he's in no condition to speak yet. SIGNAL
  • Interesting: NSD implements new security plan for its 10 schools following Sandy Hook massacre. SCVNEWS
  • It will take the Coroner's office some two months to identify the remains of a person who was found some 400 feet down a ravine near a car in the Angeles National Forest. The family of Gevork Boyadzhyan has been looking for him for two months and while Detectives confirm the car in the ravine belonged to Boyadzhyan, the Coroner's office says all they know is that they have a bunch of bones.   • The parents of Bryce Laspisa have officially ended their search for their 19 year old son at Castaic Lake. PATCH.COM
  • LA wants to host Summer Olympics in 2024: Supervisors voted to support the idea following their colleagues on the LA City Council. Wouldn't that be neat? I wasn't around the SCV in 1984 when LA last hosted the games but by 2024, maybe we could have some events up here if by some miracle LA gets to host the games again? It's not out of the realm of possibility; we have some great cycling locations. SIGNAL

  • Way to go McKeon! Our chickenhawk Congressman writes a hard-edged op/ed in the Moscow Times accusing President Vladimir Putin of hypocrisy and ignorance on his criticism of the US' stance on Syria. DAILY BEAST

    I am always suspicious when officialdom throws out these "lawsuits" as reasons for everything. I would really like them to provide names of actual cases that have been brought so that the public could read the pleadings and see what is really going on. I find it extremely hard to believe that any rational plaintiff's attorney is bring cases against COC because a non-student or athlete slipped and fell on the track. That does not seem like a paying case.

    There really is not a good reason to call Buck names like chickenhawk , it hurts the credibility of the writer. Someone has to stand up to Putin .

    Phil: A rational plaintiff's attorney is one who takes on a "paying" case; one where actual damages exist and the chance of recovery (and therefore settlement) is high.

    Without plaintiffs attorneys, there wouldn't be a whole lot of need for defense attorneys.

    Thanks for covering the Cougar Stadium story. Below is a petition I have started to urge COC to allow the public access to the facilities considering the project was funded with Measure M money and other community colleges in the surrounding area allow public use.
