- SS SCV collides with iceberg Chloride: At a meeting yesterday at City Hall but not conducted by the City, Sanitation District folks presented the expensive and economically damaging proposal to lower the chloride in our discharge water. "Scam," is how TimBen Boydston put it, Antonovich, who made a rare appearance in these parts and got applause for railing against the state, while others called the District's EIR a failure and Kellar -a member of the Sanitation District board- said the chloride issue was the most complicated problem he's ever been involved in. - Look at the mess we made: Mike D broke the big story over the weekend about local school district officials paying for bogus PTA endorsement ads to be sent to SCV mailboxes and what do you know? By late Monday his reporting + another report out of Torrance has resulted in the real California State PTA condemning the false mailer and the company behind it. And apparently the shame stick still hsa some utility in CA: Liberty Campaign Solutions, the company that created the fake mailer and sold it to De La Cerda, Umeck, and Bryce, has taken down the website for its fictional advocacy group. Nice work. SANTACLARITA.COM
- Look at the mess we made Part 2: And over at KHTS Taylor Villaneuva does a nice job of summarizing a Saugus School District candidates forum held yesterday where the hot topics were Winkler's status & the fictional, deceitful mailer paid for by the incumbents. KHTS
- Mountain lions preying on Saugusites? Three of the stealthy cats are spotted "in the heart of Saugus," as Mike puts it. Witness descriptions are spellbinding and awesome at the KCAL 9 link, with witnesses reflecting on how the big cats had a distinctly Saugus way about them: relaxed, care free, with nothing really to do because it's Saugus..."Just strolling down to our fence....casually walking along, looking around." - Ha! Nice one Manzer. I LOLed "I was reading about the sighting of mountain lions near Copper Hill in Valencia. This has destroyed my whole perspective on wildlife in the SCV. I thought all the cougars were in the various bars and bistros of our fair valley." SCVNEWS
- The Deputy who drove his car into a tree on McBean late Sunday night was Code 3 en route to a burglary call when he apparently hydroplaned on some water and slammed into McBean's gorgeous center median treescape. That's the juice from Smith who has a good report and pictures at KHTS
- I bet the City Councilmembers who decided that the two finalist pieces in the Newhall Roundabout art project weren't suitable regret their decisions now. There is real agony over what to put in the Roundabout now, with no real direction, scope, budget or plan other than an online poll here and there. I say just plant a damn Oak Tree, but Signal commenters have different ideas including one who says Newhall's roundabout should be distinctly Valencian in nature since Valencia is a superior community. Yep. SIGNAL
- Coroner officials still can't identify the 30 year old Latina woman who was found dead off San Francisquito road earlier this year. They're supposedly waiting to get some DNA results from someone in Guatemala and think they know the woman's family, but results aren't forthcoming. To think you could just end up dead out in the SCV and not even be claimed by your family....rest her poor soul. SIGNAL
- Also sad, the Laspisa family, after searching Valencia for their missing son, is apparently returning to Castaic again to search there. No trace of the missing 19 year old. SIGNAL
- And who steals other people's mail? Sand Canyon man's video surveillance system catches thief stealing stuff from his mailbox. As someone who for the first time in at least 20 years has a mailbox to call his own, I'm concerned and plan to write my congressman. KHTS via SCVNEWS
- Back and forth legal battle in Palmdale voting rights case does not auger well for the CIty's fortunes when our lawsuits go to court. KHTS
- Canyon Country Downtown : a Vision for the 21st Century Cowboy. Ok so that's not what it's going to be called but if you're interested in the Soledad Corridor's future and you are geeky about things like land use, building codes, and such, then Canyon Country's library is the place to be on Wednesday night at 7:30pm. - Speaking of cougars, look out! Pierce Brosnan is apparently in town filming a new movie called How to Make Love Like an Englishman according to a celebrity blog. Brosnan plays a womanizer who finally meets his match in the form of the lovely Salma Hayek, who, if it's confirmed that she's also in the SCV, I will be on set to see her within ten minutes. BLOG
