As the Year Winds Down (Or, In the Absence of Links, Musings)

There seems to be a lingering problem with links in the Daily Brief not working. I was going to do a big ol' roundup of the big stories of the year. So, I find myself here on the last day of 2014 with no Daily Brief to share with you. But I think you'll be ok. And, if you find yourself curious about what's going on in the SCV, well, there are fine sources of local news like SCVNews/SCVTV, KHTS and The Signal. And you can always trust Facebook to provide you a steady stream of what locals are talking (or arguing) about.
All in all, it has been a good year and it's been a pleasure to handle the Daily Brief. Every so often, when I wonder if anyone is still reading it, someone will mention how much they appreciate it. So, thanks for making it worth getting up before the sun five days a week.
Like any year, 2014 had its share of ups and downs in the SCV, but overall I think we did ok. We got into a fight about billboards, Cemex is still an unresolved issues, too many pizza places opened up shop, we finally have some fresh blood in the 25th Congressional district seat, House Roots keeps making phenomenal coffee, people like Deputy Josh Dubin continue to make good strides in improving relations between the Sheriff's Station and the community, we're still in a drought but we've started getting some rain....the list could go on and on and on.
If you're like me, I hope this weekend can be a good time to look back over the past 12 months and take stock of life, and look ahead to a new year and what can be accomplished every day. Resolutions? Just determine to make the most you can of every day. Sure, goals are a good thing but don't bite off more than you can chew and don't beat yourself up if you fall behind. Keep going.
Happy New Year to all. See you in 2015.

Thank you, Josh and Mike for keeping this blog current and being a source of information for many Santa Clarita readers. Most of us know that the Signal does not meet any sort of standard for good journalism (regard for the truth and a commitment to informed dialogue) and will not print anything that displeases City Council. SCVTV receives funding from the city and does not do any sort of investigative or in depth reporting of local politics. We need you guys to ask the important questions. Happy New Year.

I love the daily brief. It is the condensed soup of SCV news. Your brief also covers interesting national stories in science and politics. Keep them coming, Josh. Happy new year!

...and what's up with The Signal online being a pay site now?

Not everyone is on their blacklist. If you object to the city's agenda, you are forced to pay for the opportunity to comment.

    Watch you talkin' 'bout Willis?
