Looking for Answers: The Signal talks with scientists and water officials to get answers to the questions of what effect deep brine injection wells on the west side could have. There are already similar wells at other spots in town, according to Jim Holt's report. The Signal
Speaking Of: "To West Side residents we would like to say: Please set aside the alarmism and rationally inform yourself about this issue." The Signal's editorial board points a finger at the Sanitation District for maybe not handling public outreach well, but also puts a little blame on west side residents for not paying attention to chloride issues. Wilk Wants Changes: "No one I know would go and take out a 30-year loan to buy a laptop." Assemblyman Scott Wilk introduced a bill that would bar school districts from using construction bond funds for purchases such as computers and tablets. The Signal
Cemex Decides to Get to Work: As the long struggle to keep Cemex from operating a gargantuan sand and gravel mine in Soledad Canyon, the cement giant has basically told the city, "Um, yeah, we're going to start getting ready to work." Congressman Steve Knight is hoping for a bipartisan effort that could help resolve the issue. The city has also set up a webpage with a helpful FAQ section. KHTS
City's Strategic Plan is On the Books: The city of SClarita has released a three-year strategic plan for the city libraries, including everything from modernization and site updates to improved technology and digital access. SCVNews

GOP Makes a Change: The California GOP officially recognized the Log Cabin Republicans, the 38-year-old gay wing of the party, to mixed results from party members. Daily News
The Ever-Changing Market: The average single-family home price in SCV in January was up 10.9 percent from the same time last year, but down 3 percent from December. SCVNews
Record Lows: The state Senate introduced its lowest number of bills for the first time in 25 years, 793 to be exact. Among them are required vaccinations for children and a road use tax. SacBee

Now that both Laurene & Marsha have capitulated and agreed with Mike Antonovich that the brine injection well should not be in an area covered by houses, Santa Claritans should take a serious look at Laurene's comments to The SIgnal to to Hometownstation.com. It is truly amazing how arrogantly she refuses to admit that both the old and new the location of the well, 800' apart, was one of the most politically incorrect moves ever made in the history of the Santa Clarita Valley. Rather than fight to protect the economic interest of Santa Clarita Valley taxpayers by demanding that the Sanitation District lawyer competently fight the Regional Water Quality Control Board at both the State Allocation Board and in the Superior Court, Laurene shows that she doesn't give a rat's patootie about the Santa Clarita Valley's voters and taxpayers, and instead takes the side of the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) and acts like an angry school marm in chastising her constituents for not agreeing to her surrender to the RWQCB. This failure to competently fight the RWQCB has been going on for more than 2 years, and it is under Laurene's hand that the failures have occurred. Whose side is she on? Why would anyone ever vote for her again? Look at the woman's comments on those two news sites and decide for yourself.
