Presidential candidates have their own YouTube accounts and regularly post videos on the popular website. So why not City Council candidates? Diane Trautman has done just that, and her video is after the jump.
Trautman has long been an advocate for senior issues, but she spoke about a few other local issues to supporters last Friday in front of City Hall.
The Planning Commissioner said that solving traffic problems would be a priority for her, saying she would work with the Council to develop a comprehensive plan.
She also spoke about housing costs during the rally, saying “Retirees can’t afford to live here. I would work with the council to create affordable housing for our seniors and our workforce.”
Finally, Trautman touched on what could be termed as quality of life issues.
“We need parks, and libraries, we need art galleries and theaters. Open space, the environment are not luxuries, they are necessities,” she said.
“It’s up to us to take the lead and grow the way we want it to.”
No mention was made during the video of Trautman’s position on the controversial expansion of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, which may be one of the first matters before the council after the April election.
However, last year she said that an inpatient building ought to be guaranteed before the plan is approved. As it stands now, no inpatient building is guaranteed if the hospital expansion plan is approved.
Trautman currently sits on the Planning Commission, which approved the Hospital’s plan last year.
Also last year, Trautman came out in favor of the City’s Open Space Initiative, and appeared before a group of Democratic voters in July to debate the measure with opponents.
