  • The body found yesterday has been identified as that of 39 year-old Kyle Hansen of Newhall.  Hansen apparently committed suicide by intentional drug overdose.  (SIGNAL)
  • The Sulphur Springs School District has denied a charter request by Aspire, Plan, Achieve, Reflect, Thrive (aka “APART”).  District officials said the planned curriculum did not meet state standards.  (I’m thinking they need a new name, too.)  (SIGNAL)
  • Demonstrating that academic success in mathematics doesn’t necessarily correlate with civilized behavior, a 43-year old CSUN math professor has been charged with repeatedly peeing on a fellow professor’s office door.  (DAILY NEWS)
  • The Dow flirted with 12,000 today, going over briefly, but ending just under.  (LATIMES)
  • IHeartSCV has an insightful report on Tuesday’s City Council meeting, along with a picture of the “nicer” and skinnier Frank Ferry. (IHEART)
  • A Muslim cleric was caught sneaking into the U.S. from Mexico.  Said Jaziri was deported from Canada to Tunisia three years ago.  (LATIMES)
  • A poll by the Public Policy Institute shows most voters support Governor Brown’s approach to balancing the budget, although they may not fully understand the depth of the cuts that will come.   (OC REGISTER)

  • Actor Charlie Sheen was rushed to the hospital this afternoon with severe abdominal pain.  No word on the diagnosis or prognosis.  He apparently hosted an all night party last night.  (DAILY NEWS)
  • And last but not least, Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris wants to broadcast ”bird songs” from loudspeakers along Lancaster Boulevard.  According to the mayor, there is research to show that listening to birds makes people happier.  (DAILY NEWS)

  • City of Ventura City Manager Rick Cole in his blog channels Ender Math with this quote: “Quite often, the Ventura City Council hears from a roomful of passionate advocates who are sure they are speaking for the entire community. The absence of the other 105,000 citizens who may or may not share their views is seen as evidence that they are, indeed, the ‘voice of the people.’ “ SOUND FAMILIAR?

    Calling the ‘MLK Special’ tasteless is a bit much. Using that senseless article to attempt to show that racism and discrimination are “issues of the PC set” is much more ridiculous. Piggybacking one to the other is laughably ignorant. That said………if a local restaurant started serving wine labeled as “Jesus Juice”, and appetizers of “Christ Crackers” I’m thinking local evangelical types may just pray for locusts. Just sayin.

    The high speed trains are slated for CA because other states had the good sense to reject the funding. What does a mosque in Temecula have to do with the SCV?Quite frankly Petz knows that Linda nad CC are smart enough to know that events in Cairo will ripple through the SCV. Can Petz advertise his daughter’s football pool with a value priced $10.00 buy in to support girl’s soccer in the SCV?

    We have discussed high speed trains here before as it pertains to SCV. I’m sure we will again. Ripples from Cairo into the SCV? I’m not so sure. But we do have an Islamic Center in the SCV . . . As to the last question, I think you already did! But feel free to add your contact info.

    How many countries have fallen while having a great army? That’s not a requirement for national defense. We have the ultimate poison pill to keep enemies away. Obviously you and Petz are big into USING that military and not to protect our borders like the founders wrote. Budget busters both of ya!

    When the Founders initiated that military in 1775 our borders were at 13 colonies and not 50 states. We as a military are great not because of our budget but because of what we do on a daily basis that you don’t see. No, the Russians and Cubans arent dropping into the SCV like in Red Dawn but there is a reason. We being strong and united and is a major deterrant. Just like most ppl dont have the b@lls to come up and challenge me in person, others who dislike us rarely dream of going through with a plan of attacking us. With that being said, there is a compromise needed in regards to defense spending. We cannot go back to the days of President Carter where our military was gutted both financially and motivationally. While alot of us disagree with military industrial influence, if at any point there is a sense of us being sold out you can guarantee that what happened this November will occur on a larger scale. Too many have sacrificed without being abandoned simply because we dont fit a certain “political mold.” And too many have sacrificed and I am not talking about simply being a victim of the economic downturn.

    Petz is just madder than hell at Obama and his failed foreign policy. Remember his Cairo speech two years ago? Obama has led this country over a cliff and is gutting our military. Oh let’s spend a bunch of time on DADT while we watch the world burn and US interest erode. Incredibly weak at home and abroad and our enemies and allies realize this.

    Unfortunately that freedom has not existed in Egypt for over 50 years from Mubarak, Sadat, or Nasser. In fact, its the brutality of those regimes that put religious people into jail for decades because they didnt embrace nationalism, creating the current terrorists you see today. The same approach was tried in Iraq initially and it didnt produce positive results in the long run and it was abandoned.

    The problerm in Egypt has nothing to do with them wanting “FREEDOM” the huge majority of people in Egypt have very little education and have no clue, the instigastors of this ‘protest”are the Moslem Brotherhood that wants to take Egypt to a strict Moslem country.

    I find it interesting that you highlight the education level of those in Egypt and go on to misspell at least 4 words in your posting. The issue in Egypt has strictly to do with the oppression of the government who have basically handed power from one President to the next for over 50 year. Their elections are a joke since if you oppose the current President, you are arrested, detained, or harassed to the point you drop out of the race. The Muslim Brotherhood began in the late 1920′s and adopted a policy of non-violence from the beginning. The problem occurred when Gamal Nasser imprisoned a large majority of its leadership/members and tortured them as well. This policy continued on through Sadat and into Mubarak’s current regime. Everyone was hit in this policy, both Muslim and Coptic. Very similar to how in Israel even Churches have been shut down by the Israeli govt. Its just not broadcasted on CNN. There was even a well known incident where a Palestinian Catholic Priest was tortured by the IDF and accused of terrorism. And not to excuse the violence in any regards, but if you take your lovable family Cocker Spaniel and you poke him with a stick constantly, eventually he is going to fight back and it probably wont be pretty. The reason the protests are going on is the people have hit their breaking point and see no viable alternatives. And with the recent incident in Tunisia, this was motivation for them to finally take a stand.

    You have no clue what you are talking about…. as usual. I have worked in Egypt for many years and know much more about the people and the happenings. We said the same thing about Iraq… “All these people want is freedom”… it’s not about freedom it’s about Muslim Fundamentalists wanting to take over Egypt, wake up.

    Oh ok, so you having worked in Egypt for many years makes you an expert, says who? Unless for some reason you are working out the embassy or developing counter-intel briefs I am thinking you are doing what is called an assumption. Heck, I was stationed in Egypt for Operation Bright Star so under your pretenses I should be able to serve as an SME for Fox News or CNN. What your response shouldve looked more like was, “Mr Perez, I would have to disagree with your thoughts on the matter and feel it is your perception.” Notice how I also use my name and dont hide behind an online moniker, hmmmmm. Now to the subject at hand. I can gladly have many of my Egyptian friends, several of which live right here in SCV, testify to what life is like under a dictator and why they people chose a week after Tunisia was toppled the same way to protest if you like. Granted, the Brotherhood is involved in some of the protests but they did not initiate or coordinate them. And the people of Iraq did want freedom. I have personally been to Iraq and have spoken to many. The issue is, you dont take a people who are used to having every level of their life controlled by Saddam Hussein and then giving them no structure or system. This allowed the extremist groups to run in, take control, and reak havoc for everyone involved. But I am sure you and Pat Robertson have all the answers………

    And to confirm what I was being told, here is a wonderful article illustrating that the protestors are both Christian and Muslim, poor and elite. Their common focus is on a dicator of 30 years.
