Terror Turkies

Whenever Matt Drudge wants to attack the Obama Administration on security and terrorism, he knows he can't do so directly. After all, Bush slayed his thousands of terrorist, but Obama slayed his tens of thousands of terrorists, including the king terrorist himself, Osama Bin Laden.

So attacking Obama on that front just won't work. Instead, Drudge consistently finds a way to mock Secretary Napolitano, the director of Homeland Security. Usually he tags her with the not-so-subtle "Big Sis" moniker, to, I guess, hint that she's a lesbian.

Today is one such day. Today he's elevated a warning sent out by DHS about the danger of turkey fryers into this:

The only thing missing is the little animated gif siren. If you click the bold, red, underlined text, it links to a story that says DHS tweeted a video from Underwriter Laboratories, the independent safety agency that stamps just about every product in your home.

The UL video is, well, terrifying. It shows a fireman placing a large, partially frozen turkey inside a turkey fryer at 350 degrees. Almost instantly, grease and oil spill out of the turkey fryer and catch fire, creating an 8 foot tall flaming conflagration that will end any Thanksgiving celebration on a down note.

An embedded YouTube video appeared here in the original post. View the original — embeds are preserved as links in this archive.

UL says they're so concerned about the safety of the device that they refuse to put their stamp on it, and they recommend you don't buy one either.

Now I don't know about you, but I consider this important and useful information. After seeing that video, I'm definitely going to engage with a professional before I try to deep fry an entire turkey (!!!). Should DHS have sent it? I think so, but maybe not. I suppose if we're being true federalists or Tenthers, we should have coordinated with all 50 capitals to send out the warning separately.

Since Drudge is lingua franca for the right, the DHS-Is-Worried-about-Flaming-Turkeys-Not-Terrorists meme has spread all over the blogosphere today, and everyone is joining in with Drudge to mock DHS and Janet Napolitano. I'm sure it's already a topic on several talk radio shows, and we can expect this meme to persist for a few weeks (just like the DOJ's muffin-gate) and be used as an example of federal waste, liberal overreach, and  yet another attack by Obama on a proud American tradition that started when the Pilgrims deep-fried their own turkey and broke bread with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Jesus and Pocahantas.
