April 30, 2012 – Daily Brief

  • Local environmental group says we have until about May 31 to work a deal with CEMEX over aggregate mining in Soledad Canyon. SCVNEWS

  • Meanwhile, last Friday, Scott Wilk and Lee Rogers -an unlikely pair- took it to Buck McKeon for his failure to act on CEMEX legislation while at the same time passing what Rogers says is similar legislation for the Mammoth Mountain area just months after he received a big campaign donation from the CEO of Mammoth MountainSIGNAL, KHTS

  • Patricia McKeon explains why she's running to the Daily News, saying she believes in public service and would work in Sacramento and come home to the SCV every Thursday. The Daily News wins understatement of 2012 saying in reference to Wilk and McKeon, "the two candidates with close ties to the congressmen could potentially divide Republicans in the District." DAILY NEWS

  • A Sheriff's Deputy collided with a car driven by a 16 year old and suffered head injuries this weekend. The 16 year old was ok. SCVNEWS

  • Meanwhile, Deputies arrested one drunk during a DUI checkpoint on Friday in Valencia. The Signal's headline was about how many cars were screened, as if that's materially important. KHTS

  • Bill Reynolds and another SCV Vietnam Veteran, awarded Bronze Stars for action in Vietnam over forty years ago. Congrats Bill! Great story at the SIGNAL

  • SCOPE wins big environmental award from state group KHTS

  • Signal editorial says everyone is to blame for the nastiness that's consuming local GOP politics with barely a month to go before primary day. In a way, The Signal says, "we can't blame Patricia McKeon's camp for saying she was through with the candidate forums in the Santa Clarita Valley." See, the other political campaigns have set her up, or something. More false equivalence at the SIGNAL

  • Bossert hammers the Signal over its $0.10/word LTE policy; meanwhile, 200+ people join a Facebook group called Santa Clarita Letters to the Editor

  • I'm going to be interviewing Scott Wilk and Lee Rogers this week. I've got my own list of questions, but if you have some, post them in the comments below or email me at jeff at scvtalk.com
