Death reporting and the SCV

A reader is disappointed we don't know more about the man who shot himself to death on the I-5 transition bridge to northbound Highway 14:

I find it quite curious as to why no other news agencies are covering this story.  Not in the L.A Times and not on any news channels.  It's a story, although very tragic, that is rare and 'news' worthy, IMO.  No other information on this gentleman or circumstances?  The article in the Signal says that it's a "sensitive investigation", but why did this not make it to other news media?

As the Signal noted in its report earlier this week, this is the second suicide from that spot in recent years. Last time, media coverage of the suicide was also controversial, but for a different reason.

In the 2007 incident, a man threw himself from the bridge to his death and the Signal, if I'm remembering correctly, published a wide-angle photo of the man in mid air as he fell to his death. Gruesome. You can imagine how that filled the LTE section for weeks to come.

As for LA area coverage? Well we had two odd SCV-related deaths this week. The suicide shooter on I-5 and the Master's College student who died while in a pit of sand in Oxnard. There are very few news articles about the suicide victim but over 250+ articles from all over the world mentioning the Master's student.
