If you're reading this, I trust you're one of the 500+ daily readers of SCVTalk who has stuck with us through this rocky summer and disastrous week where we've essentially been homeless and offline. I want to thank you for continuing to read and caring about the site.
That said, I think SCVTalk has just about run its course. But wait, before you click that X button on your browser, please read on.
I'm replacing SCVTalk with Notes From Newhall.com (or, if you like, NFN is the 4th Generation SCVTalk.com. Either address will take you to this page). The blog will still retain its SCV focus and the Daily Brief will continue, but we're going to mix it up a bit with more posts on state and national topics that have bearing on our town. I hope to write at least two or three posts per day, so there will be lots of reasons to check back on the site.
The rest of the content will come from you, I hope. There's no easy way to say this so here it is straight: There will be no blog commenting on the site, per se. Rather than post your comments directly under a blog post, I ask that you email me your comments at jeff at scvtalk.com. If your comment is thoughtful and intelligent and yes, even critical of me or my ideas or some news story, you will see your comment posted as its own separate blog entry later in the day.
In effect, I'll be taking your emailed comments and turning them into full posts of their own. And then other readers can respond to you using the same method.
What's more, your comments will be completely anonymous. I will not post your name, email address or any other identifying characteristic. Your comment will simply be from "a reader," as will everyone else's.
If this works, we'll have an interesting and dynamic "scroll" where every time you visit the site, you see new, witty, or intelligent content at the top. Some of the comments will be from insiders, others won't. The idea behind complete anonymity is that it frees us all up to focus on ideas and concepts rather than people and egos.
Finally, I will be building out an archive.scvtalk.com for the old website. I can't stand the thought of losing 6+ years of our collective writing/blogging experiment to the ether, so I hope to have the old sites back up in a week or so. They will remain online for as long as I can pay for them, but they will be static and read-only.
So, welcome to NotesfromNewhall.com, SCVTalk's successor. I hope you'll keep an open mind as content gets posted to the site, and I hope you'll email me your thoughts and comments at jeff at scvtalk.com.
Thanks as always for reading.
Jeff
