- Council News: The City Council returned from recess last night and it was a significant meeting. Councilmembers bailed-out/rescued the Boys 'n Girls club & Senior Center with $100k each (with Frank Ferry worrying about precedent and other non-profs), pondered the replacement of Ken Pulskamp, discussed the City's nascent Climate Action Plan (with Kellar saying such plans weren't business-friendly) and appointed Mike Cruz and Gary Choppe to Parks and Rec & Arts Commission respectively. - Also, the Council approved a $75,000 item to explore building a 40,000-60,000 sq.ft. conference center in Santa Clarita. City econ dev manager Jason Crawford says "Santa Clarita would attract more conferences, conventions and revenue-gathering tourism events, yielding increased sales tax generation" if a conference center was built. - What would you do if you saw a man running through the Stanch's WalMart parking lot in an LA County jail jumpsuit? You'd think the man escaped Pitchess and called police right? Well an off-duty cop saw such a thing and arrested the man who, it turns out, wasn't an escapee but decided to swipe an inmate outfit on his way out of the klink, then unfortunately wore the jumpsuit during his brief freedom. - Some 470,000 community college students state-wide are on wait lists as demand for job training & lower division classes only increases, according to a new survey of the state's community college system.The system has already had its funding cut $809 million in the last four years; $338 million more could be cut if Brown's tax proposals aren't approved by voters LA TIMES
- The Saugus school district unveiled parts of Emblem Elementary to the public Tuesday. The school is being renovated but has faced delays. It should re-open for the 2013-2014 school year SIGNAL
