Tragically the Signal is reporting that a child died yesterday in Canyon Country. Age, gender not known but homicide detectives were onsite yesterday evening investigating after getting calls about a child not being able to breathe SIGNAL KHTS mentiosn that the child may have been an infant. KHTS
Strange: 17 students at CalArts have become ill after a "Chef's Day" at the college's cafeteria. CalArts students are posting about it on Facebook and some are saying the symptoms resemble norovirus, but no definitive word yet. County health investigators are checking into it. KHTS
Only the lawyers win: The family of Dakota Demott has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Santa Clarita and two of Demott's friends for the tragic crash in Sand Canyon in which Demott was killed. Also Perry Smith has an update on the criminal charges against the two young men who are alleged to have been racing/exhibiting speed on Sand Canyon that night. KHTS
And the bicyclist who was killed riding his bike yesterday on Railroad was not a young man or teen as first reported according to CBS 2. Rather he was a 38-45 year old man and was riding on the sidewalk. CBS
And a pedestrian was struck by a driver in a car yesterday while crossing a street in Saugus.Thankfully Perry Smith doesn't abstract the whole thing with a leed as is the usual case with car-on-person collisions, ie the beloved " A car struck a pedestrian yesterday," as if hte car had agency and volition. I digress but feel a Lois Eisenberg LTE coming on. KHTS
And indeed, here it is! My favorite LTE nag has some good and silly points in a new LTE tsk-tsking all of the SCV to drive more safely. SIGNAL
Some interesting spin and comments from the SCV Sanitation District official Press Release on the announcement of Alternative 2. Ok so it's pretty dry reading but it's obvious they want to shift the fault to the state and Mayor Kellar says the action taken will "maintain local control and insure water reliability for our community into the future." PR

Interesting: Another poll, done by real political scientists, shows that if Buck McKeon were to supoprt immigration reform in California's Fightin' 25th District, his voters would forgive him if he was a little more liberal with the policy details of the plan, ie they'd forgive him and other Congressmembers in this area if a so-called "path to citizenship" was included in the bill. Can't get to the poll itself but that's quite a refreshing change. SFGATE
Also in a story yesterday in the AV Press, Tony Strickland all but confirmed he's planning on running in CA-25 next year if McKeon does indeed decide to retire. Which was the whole point of Scott Wilk's epic post yesterday. "Strickland said if McKeon opts to retire it would be "very likely" he would change course and campaign for the vacated 25th District seat, calling it the district where he grew up." Oil development as a way to stop home development: yes, it was a tactic employed one time, right here in the SCV. Interesting economics at play when the value of land is thought to be worth more for what's underneath it than what could be pulled off the top of it or built on the top of it. I'll leave the foodies to decide on the merits; my understanding is authentic philly cheesesteaks are hard to find and you can get into the finer points of what makes a cheesesteak a cheesesteak, like coffee or wine or any other food or drink.
